New York Daido Moriyama events in NYC Nov. 3-5 !!

.

DAMN!

Yet ANOTHER post designed to prove that the known universe outside of NYC is a cultural wasteland!!

Just y'all wait 'til I publish my coffee table book on "Upscale Shopping Plazas of the Southwest".

:p

Question and answer session was informative, but a little drawn out due to translation of course.

I wonder what the Ricoh fanboys were thinking once they heard he has been shooting digital color for his latest project / book using a Nikon. ;-)

yeah, the interaction during the Q&A sure made the night more interesting. as a bit of a "Ricoh fanboy" myself, it certainly was surprising to hear him say he's been using Nikons recently instead:eek:haha. also, his color work seemingly hasn't been very well received in the past, so i'm curious to see the new work.

afterwards, it was a crazy mob scene crowding around Moriyama, with people literally shoving books and paraphernalia in front of him to sign! i was able to get one book in, but i regret not bringing my GR1 for him to autograph as one lucky someone did...

Definitely an enjoyable evening although drawn out by the translation. He loves to give very proactive first passes at answers and then sort of back down a bit as he fleshes them out. I'm already scheming on how to get myself to London for the William Klein/Moriyama exhibit at the Tate modern in October 2012.

I'm going to with hold judgement until I see his color work. But not to put too fine a point on it, but from what I've seen in the past, his color work is horrible particularly the digital stuff. If I were him, I wouldn't sell the Tri-X and the Ricoh too soon.

yeah, i've only seen very little of his color work, so no real informed opinion on it, but it's disappointing that the majority of what i've read has not been very flattering... huh, maybe using Nikons this time around will result in work that's more inspired:D

well, anyone going to the printing show tonight or on sat? i'll be there tonight, so maybe i'll see some of you.

I found the audience questions to be a lot more interesting than the moderator's, which is rare for something like this. Moriyama seemed more lively with the more specific and process-oriented questions the audience posed. That moderator was so, so dry.

I'll be going to his Printing Show session on Saturday at 5pm. Should be pretty interesting.
