Dallmeyer 1 inch F1.9

Yesterday I picked up an early black/brass Dallmeyer Cine lens. It's F1.9 and I shot a few to see how it worked, before selling it. The literature says this might be a petzval design. Everything I see after shooting it confirms it. I think I may keep this one.

Like someone once said, these fast petzvals can be one trick ponys. But that trick is pretty cool once in a while.

This is an example of that "swirly bokeh". Is it caused by the Petzval design?

Sort of. It's caused by any design that has less corrected coma. Petzvals are very early designs, and the faster ones do swirl often.
