Damn cats

The funny thing is, I am a dog person. I could really do with out a cat. I got Rover, yes that cute tabby you can see, when I was 23 and first moved out on my own. I have always had dogs, but being a young single guy, living in an apartment... a dog just wasn't an option. Rover stood in well though. And now my collection includes a wife, the boy, 3 other cats, and 2 marvelous dogs.

Hehe, Richard, they're just like Leekas or Canon Ps, so on your next visit to a pet store you may find yourself bidding for a kitty :D

In a flat you're somewhat limited and just now my pets are a couple sparrow families living in the nearby tree. They like one of the plants in my balcony so much I think I'm feeding the whole familiy ! :)

But they are nice enough and go do 'their things' to their own place :D

I volunteer weekly at the APL taking care of the kitties for a few hours early Sunday morning. They get frustrated and depressed if they don't have company.

Anyone want a cat?

Here is how I ended up with the last two.

Stimpy was a kitten in a pet store, dropped off in the morning, put in a bin with a mother and two kittens. Every time he tried to get close to the mommy cat she pushed him away. He was alone on the opposite side of the bin crying. I was with my wife, then girlfriend. We left the store, she was crying................

Smokey was a stray kitten born in a dog house. My wife was walking with my mother and they came across the litter. We were leaving and Pam had to rescue one of the kittens. She wanted a little calico and took some treats from my mom and went and sat on the side walk trying to coax a kitty into her lap. Talk about a photo op. After watching this for 30 minutes, knowing that I had already missed the first half of the game, I put her in the car, put down some treats, and just grabbed the first beast that got close to me. Two minutes later I was on my way home.

Stimpy is now around 20 lbs and Smokey is a queen.

All our cats have been strays except one sleek pale grey female we got from the animal shelter because she was yelling the loudest. She was a roamer, though, and later got run over several blocks away. We've had entirely too many run over, so the current batch all stay in.

We have five now. Here's a shot of the youngest three; two females and their brother (whose pic I used for an avatar until recently):

The late Whiskers. He came to us as a kitten. We agreed to take care of him while his original owners went on an extended trip to Europe. They didn't reclaim him. Here he is at age 12 sitting on my lap perched on my knee. When I came home, I was rarely seated more than 30 seconds before he would take this traditional (for him) position.

Photo taken with a Nikon N80 in program mode and a Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 AF-D lens. Speed light bounced from ceiling to reduce the powerful "green eye" glow which makes red eye in humans look weak.
