I'm with Doug. The "a" cuts across the reflection and interrupts it. Therefore the sign is reflecting light from another source. It has nothing to do with your lens. I guess you could say it is "Mercy" for "Merciful". 🙄 :angel:

Thanks, guys. Unfortunately, in the frame that started the discussion, the results are much different than that little reflection, and definitely indicative of a problem somewhere.

Looks like a leak to me: but I don't understand how it could have happened. To add to the oddness, there was no space between this frame and the following frame, and the effect extended into that frame.

It looks like a light leak, but that should have spilled into the inter-frame area.

Is there any chance that direct light was shining onto the lens, illuminating any of the elements? I have had that happen.

Thanks, Brian. Yeah, that's possible, but I've no recollection. What's also concerning me is that there isn't any inter-frame area in this case: the negs are side-by-side here.

Load up the next roll and try out the camera. Maybe the film buckled, jumped a sprocket, pushed on the flip-up back. I tend to use all of my cameras in "never-ready" cases to provide one more light-shield. That is one thing about the "M"s that makes me a little queesy, and has caused problems to others, is that light-seal in the flip-up back.

I have a feeling that sharp cutoff of the flare or whatever, and the triangular shape near the center, should be telling us something, but my mind goes blank. That is, "When I try to think, nothing happens." 🙂
