Earlier this month I bought myself a Nokton 35mm 1.2 and I'm incredibly impressed with it. On Sunday I bought myself a current version of the 50mm Summicron f2 and I'm awaiting its delivery...and just moments ago I purchased the 28mm f2.8 Hexanon that is in the classifieds here at RFF.

These are all, apart from the Nokton, to replace my old and battered ZM 50mm Planar and Ultron 28mm 1.9 so I like to think its not throwing money at a fit of GAS however I'm pathetically excited at having some new lenses that won't even make my images any better than if I stuck with the ageing and gaffer taped lenses I already own😀

I've never used a Hexanon 28mm before but from the images I've seen that have been produced by this lens it appears to be very sharp across the frame which I found lacking in the Ultron 1.9. Let's hope this proves to be the case.

The Summicron should be as good as the Planar, perhaps more prone to flare, but it should be a great lens anyway. As to the 28mm I am also interested in your opinion about the Hexanon, because I am still researching the ideal 28mm. I do not want to buy the Summicron, because the lens hood is unuseable and i do not shoot without hoods, I had the Elmarit v II and it was quite a dog, I have the Elmarit ASPH now, and it is a good lens, tiny and very distortion free, but it does not "bite", and the bokeh is not so great. I also have the Biogon, which is fantastic all around but a bit soft in the corners, and I have also bought now the Ultron 28/2 to see if I like it as a fast 28. For me, the ideal 28mm rf lens has yet to be made - a pity Zeiss did not repeat the quality of the 25mm, as this would have sealed the question.

I use the Hexanon 28/2.8 and like it a lot, but I did put a nice short hood on it as the one that comes with it looks like a parachute.

Will be interested to see what you think of it.

I'll be able to try both a small non vented hood and the larger vented hood on the Hexanon as it comes with both. I don't tend to shoot with large hoods on but maybe that's due to the lenses I've used.

I'll certainly report back on the 28mm, it seems it's not only me that thinks this is a tough focal length to get right. The Planar works brilliantly for me and is razor sharp but the build quality was a little disappointing, they have a fairly tough life but not enoughthat it should wobble and groan after two years!

Please do post your impression. 28mm is my favourite all round wide, so I'm anticipating the arrival of your new Hex, but not quite as much as you😉
