Pretty decent price for the Crown if it is in good shape.. Could almost consider the Nikon stuff as thrown in 😀. If the Crown still has its original lens u did very well..
I consider KEH a mid-high price comparison point. Here is a crown in Ed condition w/ no rf and missing its battery cover and yet they still want over 350 for it.
ok, looking through my nikon stuff, i already had the 75-240 f4.5 af d lens -- not a great lens, but functional and clean - rather than sell it for $50, I'm giving it to my neice who has for 6 months been exploring film photography and i've previously given her a n90s and a n60 with a basic 28-80 lens --- so, i figure her encouragement is worth more than $50 ---
If you've got a film holder with your Crown Graphic, just go out and have some fun, you didn't mention if it has the rangefinder with it? Lots easier to use with it compared to the ground glass (which I love, but only if I've time to spare and of course a tripod!)
Regards,Peter
The rangefinder on the crown is setup for one lens at a time if this is the side rangefinder. I can't remember if the top rangefinder ones had a cam for each lens or how it was setup.. But in the side rangefinder, there are a series of adjustment u need to make after u change the lens. A lot of info about this can be found at the largeformat forum. If u are lucky the rangefinder is still correctly calibrated for the lens u have.
So most people use the rf for the lens they use the most and ground glass for the other lenses.
When u buy a new lens, most of the time they will either not come w/ a lens board or a lens board from wrong manufacturer.
But I agree, go out w/ what u got and c how u like it... If u use a tripod, make sure it is not a light weight tripod, the camera is going to make it top heavy as well as possible issues with movement issues.
it has the top rangefinder --- might try my hand with the fuji 4x5 instant --- or some traditional b/w or color transparencies --- if i could find a nice way of processing and presenting transparencies, i'd shoot nothing else
