Hi folks,

don't get me wrong, but i woul be interessed whether there are any MTF-Charts of former FSU lenses available. It's just out of being curious about it, becaue i like those lenses very much.

Did they do such measurements?

They did and the information is often found in the 'passports' which went with the lenses. Soviet-era photographic catalogues also published them.

The earliest of these published information would have the same values as a publication made 30 or even 50 years later.

The values are given as "lines per milimeter" as opposed to the usual "line pairs per millimeter" quoted in western data sheets. Perhaps this explains the apparent lower values given for Soviet lenses.

The tests were also done (-this is an assumption based on a testing direction given in a factory repair manual: use of GOST 65 film) with films which may have lower resolving power than the testing films used by other, non-soviet lens makers.

Thanks Reiner. Are you using any FED or Zorki now?

Hi Jay,

shame on me, up to now i'm only using FSU lenses on Leica M ("the most expensive film holder one earth") but time will come ... Maybe FED 4 or/and Zorki C in the near future!

Welcome aboard Reiner;

If you are a long term M user, I think you would be quite happy with a Fed 3b.

I have a Fed 1g, which is a perfect mate for a collapsible 50 mm and LTM 35mm Summaron. However, with the Fed 3, which I believe to be of better quality than the Fed 4, there is less "mental shifting of gears" when alternating shots with the M and the Fed. Also, with the curtain brake properly adjusted, my Fed 3 is as quiet as the M.
