no! i have not lost my mind and started to date my gear...i'm wondering if there is a way to find out the date of manufacture of my cameras...and how do i check the number of actuations?

The same question came up on RFF in 2008. 'Xpanded' asked Epson and they replied: "With regard to your enquiry the camera does not record actuation information". If and when Epson can't reset the number of actuations, then it means that my EPSON CLA'd R-D1s had 7 actuations when I received it in the mail from Dirk/JapanExposures. Not bad for a second-hand camera.

If I were to date any of my gear, it would be my M4. She's a classic beauty yet hardy and can handle what the world throws at her. I trust her explicitly to get the job done when needed. Other cameras I'd consider would be a Nikon SP or a konica Hexar AF. Both gorgeous and fantastic at what they do...

I don't understand how you can know it had only 7 actuations and neither if you mean starting from the CLA or from new ?

I believe that among the RRF users, I have the oldest R-D1 (000053), and one of the youngest R-D1s (103073). Both bought in Japan. An interesting EPSON dating discussion here: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67331

have read and researched quite a bit and my conclusion is that the rd1 does not record actuations in a permanent manner. the frame counter can be turned on and off and so any number is highly unreliable.
the serial numbers do not, of and by themselves, show the date of manufacture...if there is an epson list that corresponds dates with serial numbers that might be the only way to tell.
