I sent my F3 to correct some issues about two weeks ago. After I sent it I was roaming on the internet and found a reasonable number of forum posts that were clearly negative. I wondered how it turned out. I received the F3 which cost me 100$ to rectify and Dave was very pleasant , quick, and always called me or texted me when necessary. My experience with Dave was fast and professional. I got an itemized invoice and a decent warranty. davescamera.net

I've never heard anything bad about him. I have a friend who lives near Dave and has had him repair many cameras over the years; he thinks highly of Dave's work.

I sent my Canon L1 to Dave at the end of January. He called me within a week, discussed what needed to be done, gave me what I felt was a fair price and said to give him "several weeks". That was the last I heard from him. Starting in June, I have called him, emailed him, and texted him, trying to get a status. He has not responded in any way. Needless to say, I am very disappointed and more than a little concerned.

Sorry about your camera but I can’t stop hearing this Cheech and Chong bit in my head when reading this thread:

Dave’s Not Here!

That's an old vaudeville and radio classic. Always funny.

But what about the camera? Does Dave have it?

I've dealt with Dave for about 30 years now, starting when he was local. His work is first rate and he is immensely knowledgeable about fixing almost any camera that exists, but the turn times seem to be highly variable and sometimes things have taken months, years, or forever to get done. He had a local shop and an assistant from the 1980s to the mid 2000s; he went into retirement for about 5-10 years, and then when he came back and started work out of Chelsea, things got really inconsistent. Things weren't getting done, things were getting lost, and it seems my Konica FT-1 Pro Half might even have been flooded out in his shop. I don't have any insight as to whether the various things hanging him up are real or not, and I've heard quite a few, but he is pushing 75 or 80, so it is an age where personal and family health can be an issue. I have a huge pile of his yellow repair tickets from successful fixes over the years, but at this point, I would worry that sending things there is going to be a black hole.

I sent him 10 or 12 cameras over the years, and inconsistent communication seems to be the norm. Sometimes it’s instant responses and fast turnaround, followed by long periods of zero communication. When it resumes there seem to be somewhat curious/dubious excuses, stories confirmed cotemporaneously by other customers. But in the end everything was completed and fairly priced.
