Dead batteries for M8/M9

I have an M8/M9 battery that no longer charges after many years of usage. I don't know the number of re-charge cycles, but wonder if Leica or anyone can "restore" usability for these expensive Li-ion batteries? If not, what is the best and safest way to dispose of these Lithium batteries?

No idea about restoring the batteries, maybe someone does!

but if you plan to throw one out, ide like one for an experiment!

Think its best to just buy a new Leica brand one. The Miami online store has them for a decent price. My M8 battery was giving poor performance so I just bought a new one battery and things are better now.
