I have in my closet a dead 5000 AF. It was working briefly when I bought it, But I think its memory backup battery must have died. Doe anyone here know who works on these?

Seriously, you can find them on Craigslist for $10. Don't fix it, just buy one. But get a 7000, it's much more flexible with aperture and shutter priority.

But aren't they all aging out? I was assuming that there was a lithium backup battery hardwired to the circuit board. Not so? If that's true, then aren't they all dead or dying? I bought this one cheap, and it died in about a week.

I have a 7000 gathering dust, with 35-70 kit lens and accessories. Works fine. You can have it but someone in my family has first dibs. I'll know more after Christmas.
Thanks for that kind thought, but here's an update: I just tried the camera with the lithium battery holder from my AF 7000 (also dead, for other reasons) and it came to life! Now I just need to get my kid to give me back a lens to check it out. He's bringing it up on Christmas. I may be all set! It's just that I have so much glass for these, (at my son's house- he doesn't use them) that I'd like to try it for a backup travel cam. Thanks all.

Nice to see a solution for your problem. Maybe you find more suggestions here in the Minolta Dynax/Maxxum Forum.
