Dead Pixels - How Worried Should I Be?

Got the R-D1s for a month now. Love it, love it, love it.

The only thing I'm very worried about are the dead pixels. I got 8 after using it for two weeks. Corrected it with the built-in function. Then today I looked at the photos and found 2 new ones. Corrected them again.

Are 10 dead pixels in one month "normal"? Also if the pixels on the CCD are "dead", are they "dead forever" or do they just need some rest? I don't know how worried I should be about this issue. Please tell me more about it so I'll know what to think.

Thanks in advance.

It seems to be par for the course. I have to map mine out all the time. I sometimes wonder if some of the "dead" ones come back to life after a while. It hasn't affected my photo quality at all.

Until we have infallible technology, that is the state of things, and what's already been said is the common wisdom.

If they're minute, don't worry. If they're huge (sometimes they seem that way), then you may want to have it remapped under warranty. Epson doesn't support this camera anymore, afaik. But I'm sure someone somewhere has figured this out.

If they're appearing like crazy, then perhaps you should examine how you're storing your camera. If you're doing a lot of long air travel (e.g. intercontinental, between New Yowk and London), cosmic rays will get you, and become noticeable in such a "low megapixel count" sensor (low by today's more-is-better society).

The sensor isn't an invincible, everlasting thing for the ages; they age, and if used or stored in extreme weather or extreme climate change conditions, they'll age faster.

If your stuck pixels are "permanent" (meaning, you can see those same ones in the same spot one photo after another), then this may be the cause. If their placement is random, then it's just "common", run-of-the-mill color noise.

Thanks for the replies.

It's nice to know that it happens to other cameras too.

The dead pixels on my photos are permant (same spot every photo) until corrected manually. Yet the correction seems to be getting pretty natural result.
