Adorama has the GRD IV for under $400. Great deal on what is still a terrific camera.

Just thought I'd pass along the deal 🙂
 
This is seriously tempting. Here is a question. If I were to weigh the pros and cons of the following options, what do you guys think:
1. Ricoh GRD IV
2. Panasonic LX7
3. Fuji 18mm f2 lens for the X series

I have a GRDIII and a Fuji 18/2, I still use the GRDIII quite often since I can just slip it into a pocket and head out. The Fuji will undoubtably produce better results though.
 
I did have the same first thought. But then, my reasoning is $300 vs $800.
Street photography is not something i encounter on a daily or even weekly basis. Spending $800 for a camera that i do not use very often is a bit too much for me.

The reason I list XF 18mm is because I already have X-E1. But size is not as compact as Ricoh.
LX 7 is my wife's camera that I have access too.
Ricoh GR series, on the other hand is a camera i always wanted to have, but never pulled the trigger. With the current price, new, it is getting very attractive.

I am sure the new Ricoh GR will be much better image quality wise. But not sure it is more than double the quality in my inexperienced hands... 🙂

I have the GR on pre-order as well but don't discount street shooting with a small sensor camera in good light, it's is also quite cool. I'm going to enjoy both!

For under $300 it's a whopping good deal and a lot of camera for the $$$.

If I was deciding on any of those two, I'd go for the $300 one because it has a f1.9 aperture and combine that with its small sensor one can stick to ISO 100 even in low light and still have plenty of dof.

f2.8 and a large sensor on the GR means you have to shoot at higher ISO in low light situations to have the needed dof.

Indeed. Small sensor cameras have their place because of their depth of field. My GRD3 has ISO 64 (i'm unfamiliar with the IV) which bigger sensor cameras don't usually have (or need?). The f1.9 lens and rivers of depth of field make it very useful indoors at 1600. I bought mine recently used (only 200 shots on it) for $259 so $299 for a IV is a great deal.
 
Don't forget that the GR IV has image-stabilization also. I don't know how useful it is in practice, but if it gives an extra 2-stops then you can throw that little advantage in there too.
