Hi all,
After a few months of resistance, I've caved in, and pretty much decided to buy a Rolleiflex. I'm thinking a 3.5f, as I'd like the coupled meter. The idea of the Rolleiflex is that I'll take it places the Hasselblad does not go, so having meter built in sounds good to me.
Before I get one off eBay, can anyone recommend dealers in the UK or Europe ? I like Ffordes, but they don't have much in stock right now. Can't see any bargains in the UK in the Classifieds right now either.
I'd like to avoid buying from the USA due to import tax.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Garry

Aperture have a few right now, and they're reputable, but I'm not much liking the price. Peter Loy is also reputable, and has one with a faulty meter.

I like Aperture, but yes, the prices are a bit high for me. The Peter Loy price is great, and I don't mind a couple of marks on the lens, but I'd want a working meter, so I'd have to factor in the repair cost/hassle.
Thanks though, I'll keep an eye on the Peter Loy site.

Thanks for the heads up, a bit rich for me though, although the 3.5f is in beautiful condition, which somewhat explains the price.

Please reconsider your attachment to the built-in meter. "Working" or not, they will likely be faulty/inaccurate and only add bulk (to the left side).
In my opinion, you're better served getting a meterless one and learning to use a hand-held. Even if you don't like the Rolleiflex experience, at least you'll be richer of the knowledge of proper metering and you can keep the light meter for other cameras.
I did it so, and I'm very glad for it.
Good luck.

Hi Martin,
I have handheld meter, and use it with my Hasselblad. I have nothing against handheld meters, it's just one more thing to carry around. But, yes, I'm not 100% attached to getting a built in meter.
Kevin,
I'd like to see photos of the camera I'm buying, if I can't see it in person. I'm not really into this phoning around business!
Cheers

If you're not already aware of them then these places are worth keeping an eye on, or getting in touch with:
http://vintageclassiccamera.com/
http://www.collectcamera.com/index.php?lang=eng
http://www.arundel-photographica.co.uk/
http://www.croydonphotocentre.co.uk/
With the last two it's worth calling them and explaining what you're after as (very) often they know someone who has one and wants to sell or can keep an eye out for you. It's also worth bearing in mind that a number of dealers (especially London ones) buy a fair bit of their stock from Arundel Photographica!
Best of luck with the search,
John

Arundel looks fantastic, shame no stock list online that I can see.
I may send them a mail, but so far, the prices are a lot more than the German dealers on eBay, so I think I may concentrate my search there.

If you don't mind paying shipping from Denmark, Photografica in Copenhagen is a very well-reputed dealer of fine photographic tools, both new and vintage. I go there quite often. Of course Danish prices are quite high, but you may get lucky.
Their online catalogue is currently off the page, but you can email them at: mail @ photografica.com.
FYI: I have no business affiliation with them.

Arundel don't have any stock lists online as the gentleman who owns and runs it is (I believe) in his late 70s and not that computer literate. However, his prices are very reasonable - which is why many of the London dealers buy stock from him to list on their web sites! The best way to contact him is by telephone and see if he has what you want or has anything coming in.
By way of an example, I was in there a few weeks ago and they had a Mamiya for sale in top-notch condition at £200 less than the exact same camera in E+ condition at Ffordes. You can haggle too....
All the best,
John

All I can say if he has one and says it mint, then mint it will be. He thought my one was a touch off mint, I can't how, there is not a mark on it. It came with a full case with meter cover, Rolleinar 3, lens hood, and orange filter. The meter looks to be performing in line with my Gossen handheld. I paid £650. for it all. Honestly if you walked upto me with £1500 in cash for it I would turn it down. If he does have one or anyone else has I would go see it before spending the money anyway.
Good luck.
