The number of military dead and the accompanying civilian deaths during WWII is simply incomprehensible. With time, we seem to be forgetting and hurtling towards an even greater catastrophe.

Brown tree snakes are quite the predator. At the uni where I studied the gardens had green tree snakes that used to eat small skinks (called ‘fence lizards’ where I grew up) and I was always amazed that I never saw the snakes until they darted at the skinks to grab them, even when they were only an arm length away.

Isle of the Dead in Port Arthur had graves of early convicts. This stone marks the passing of Edward Spicer January 19, 1834.
