New York December NYC Meet-Up

SMUT: Maggie figured out what these "Roving" photographers are doing at closed parties and events. At the book signing, a Rover we know from fashion events took a shot of Maggie and her friend she came to support from England and had it published in "The Cut" which is an online platform for New York Magazine.

Joe points out that access is key to these events because they are not open to the general public. Now I understand the motavation where photographers are striving to catch the eye of photo editors, and are basically working for free and giving away photography.

Today Maggie is going to an audition. Some big reverse time lapse using a high speed camera to perhaps create jump cuts of individual people dancing. This will be displayed later this year at ICP in the Bowelry and be seen from the street I'm told. I was also told that this will involve many people.

I think I fixed the light leak on the full sized Polaroid back. I love the rendering of the 100 Zeiss Planar. I would imagine that stopped down to F11 that the corners will be sharper and not so dark. At F2.8 the rendering is wonderful.

Jees, time's passing by. 2 years that month since I went to NYC.
So unless Delta gives a very sweet deal on Black Friday, hard to be. I saw a Hawaiian getting the whole Honolulu-Barcelona return for $400.

Wide open is the thing nowadays 😀
I was looking at some portrait work and reminded of a LA DP who used also the 90mm Texas Leicas quite nicely for environmental portraits. And I found frustrating that I got no decent Portrait of myself with the very same camera. For having, those machines don't even have a selftimer.
Even on tripod, at close distance DoF seems a challenge but I might have to try tape measure for once. Or Guess I'll have to train that friend I never get to track because is so busy. Sign o' the times.

For me the "Texas Leica's" are the Fujica G 690 BL, the GM670, and the GL690. These early Fuji's have interchangable lenses. Also these earlier Fuji's utilized a 100/3.5 Tessar that when shot wide open and close focused has mighty wonderful bokeh.

Bot sure if the later Fuji's with fixed lenses are widely known as Texas Leicas. My spin is that it the phase Texas Leica refers to the early ones that have interchangable lenses.

DOF in the larger format means loss of about two stops worth of DOF when comparing 6x9 to 135. DOF is mighty shallow.

Even with the slight fog those pictures came out great, now that you fixed
it, it will be even better. Zeiss lens and a polaroid back who would of thought
a great combo. making me wonder if they have any backs for the Rollei
6002 or Hasselblad. Cal on Saturday I took a picture of that young lady
and I took it wide open 1.8 it came out great there is something about
a Full frame camera and wide open.

Kinda funny how I thought of Christian because that gal came from the Netherlands.

I reversed engineered and figured out that the light leak came from where there would have been a dark slide.

Anyways I named this Linhof "Junior" after my friend Louis Mendez.

I'm wondering what f stop the picture I took of you was. The exposure from the previous picture looked right, so I never even looked shutter speed or f stop.

Last night went to Bed-Sty to the Brooklyn Accelerator, an incubator for sustainable design.

Maggie and her friend Marie from Spain were interviewing a woman artist who is a weaver.

I blasted away shooting my SL with the 50 Lux-SL and my Monochrom with 28 Cron. It felt great shooting with two cameras: one with a 50; and the other a wide.

I visited a lab where 3-D knitting machines construct a garment like a sweater without having to attach the sleeves. This machine knits the entire sweater in one piece and all at once. This was a highend sweater made of very soft Merino wool. Takes about 30 minutes to knit one of these sweaters, and the machine costs about $170K.

I got to talk with another woman who runs, maintains, and programs the machine. Basically a woman engineer. Very impressive.

Thursday night we will be returning to the Brooklyn Accelerator because they will be running a sample sale and open house. Basically this is a collective of designers that are invited to join a sustainable collaborative. If invited studio workspace is provided.

Last year we went to this open house.

This Friday Richard Sandler will be speaking about his work that is now hanging in the Leica Gallery in SoHo. I attended the opening and it was a mob scene. This is also the biggest show I ever had seen at the Leica Store. The exhibit extends to the front of the store. This show is comprised of wet prints and depicts mostly NYC vintage street photography. History presents itself of a very different NYC.

I saw a 3 minute video that is the shorter clip last night. This video was shot on a Red Dragon. The interview was done in a studio and there is lots of footage of me shooting "Maggie" in Central Park's "North Woods" using my SL and retro glass for a high end campaign for a retail store in Seattle.

The owner of this luxury retail store in Seattle loves how we captured and framed her campaign of "Into the woods." I pushed the ISO to 1600 to add contrast, and used manual focus retro glass to capture a dreamy look.

So I am in lots of the shots, and there is extensive use of my still photography. The IQ and editing is really pro.

Anyways there is a longer cut we were told. Looks great.

Also the update for a different video will be now late December perhaps early January. This one is for the on-line platform for a U.S. fashion magazine that is pretty much a household name that at this time I can't mention. In this video too I will be featured shooting and so will my photography.

The two video's have me rather excited. The legacy print magazine starts with the letter "C," but the video will be on their online platform featuring Instagramers that one must follow.

The other video done by Carlos, an independent, is very high-ended and technically mucho slick and interesting.

Then there is this ICP public reverse time lapse of people dancing in the Bowelry. At the audition, "Maggie" was told that she is mid-tier and that there are mucho famous New Yorkers that will be part of this project. Each person will be dancing solo I believe. The audition was deemed necessary because this is going to be a big project.

Last night we got home late from the Brooklyn Fashion and Design Acellerator third anniversary party/pop-up event. I'm not too tired today, but last night on the way home I was.

Tonight I'll be shooting "Maggie" getting a new hair cut that is the result of two Instagram polls. One polled asked if she should grow her hair long, but this was not well received. Then she asked if she should cut her hair shorter, and about 85% said yes.

So tonight basically I will have a new girlfriend. LOL.

GEAR ALERT: I have assembled an 8x10 Dip and dunk capacity. Bought three 8x10 Kodak Hard Rubber tanks with light tight lids. Tomorrow a forth 8x10 tank arrives for washing.

A while back I bought a Nikor rack with a dozen Nikor 120 reels for $50.00 BIN with free shipping. With my spare reels this rack can hold up to 18 120 reels.

These tanks hold 3 1/2 gallons of solution, but I figure I also have all the apparatus to mix ADOX and ADOX replenisher.

This dip and dunk will also serve my three 15 foot 70mm reels, and is also useful for 35mm, and 4x5.

I went to B&H yesterday not to crowded, pick up a few small things. They changed
the Nikon counter to bright yellow and white, eye catching to say the least. Otherwise
pretty much a good day except for my cheap 28mm I got, not to good little blurry.
 
Yesterday "Maggie" had to bring a selection of clothes for the ICP shoot that will be this Sunday. I'll be a fly on the wall, and later I'll be shooting "Maggie" on the street for her blog. The weather is expected to be good.

We still need to set a date for the Meet-Up. Either December 10th or the 17th.

Today I expect the fourth Kodak 8x10 hard rubber tank delivery. I have been waiting for a while for the second type of 70mm film loader coming from Germany.
