Unfortunately, I had an accident a while back and am still recovering from a knee operation. I can now walk with crutches.
My Biogon 35/2 turned up after over a week of waiting (it wasn't in stock even though the email said it was packed and waiting to go - sound familiar?) and I wanted to try it out. And the new M3. And I've been lying on the couch for 4 weeks - so I felt like getting out a bit.
I went into town and sort of strolled around a bit, took a cowardly shot in my favourite espresso bar, strolled a bit more, couple of pictures of buildings that haven't moved in hundreds of years - whatever.
Camera loaded, lens cap off, film advanced, hyperfocused, decisive moment hunting attitude etc.
Then I saw an interesting figure (OK, beautiful woman) hurrying across a street (no traffic allowed here), lazy pigeons behind her took to the air, beautiful backdrop, beautiful expression, wonderful light...
F***ing hands gripping crutches. :bang:
There was this other thread about knowing when you've taken a great picture. Well here's a great picture I would have taken. I could have been famous. Would have made god knows how many thousand euros all worth it. Arrrgh.
It's enough to make you give up photography and take up painting.

Take heart! Though a great deal of photographers carry their cameras with them everywhere, I don't. I can count about 20 or more shots per day where I wish I had a camera with me, but didn't. I fret about not having any camera for a moment, then move on because I know there will come a time when I do have my camera and will get "that shot."

what makes you think you could have painted faster?

don't worry.Plenty of beautiful women to come along. You live in Munich, not the Moon.

At least you had a good excuse, I let about 4 or 5 shots a day get away.
Wouldn't that be an amazing gallery--The Ones That Got Away

I had a good laugh at your misfortune...sorry, it's obvious you need a motorised wheel chair brother.

Hi... Don't beat yourself up. To capture the scene you describe, your camera would have to be in 'readiness mode'... around neck or in hand, with shutter speed and aperture pre-set to lighting conditions. Tho' I carry a camera everywhere, it's usually
in a small bag. We ALL miss shots from time to time.
And remember, YOU are in Healing mode.

Ah, but that's the point. It was completely ready. It was slung around my neck. It was even pointing in the right direction. And most interestingly - I could see the picture "happening", as if in slow motion.
The good thing about this non-event is that I think I could take a good picture the next time a good picture happens right in front of me.
Thanks for all the commiserative sentiments.

That would have been a good one
