Delivering film to Germany

Hello everybody,

I'm over in Poland for work, so I brought 10 rolls or so of Efke KB25 and Tri-X to shoot. Now work has told me `go to Hanover for three days', and unfortunately I've run out of film.

Given that I wanted to pick up some more paper and some more of this beautiful Efke KB25, I figured I'd order a decent quantity of everything from Macodirect again. Unfortunately as I'm only there for three days I'm a little wary about timing.

Any idea of delivery times from Macodirect in Germany? I fly home to NZ on Wednesday, if I placed an order now so it was seen first thing on Monday morning, what are my chances it would reach the hotel before I fly out? I wouldn't want to leave a large quantity of film and paper sitting in some strange hotel in Hanover and have to arrange it to be shipped to me in NZ.

Bad timing because Maco direct has inventory and is closed for next week. Normally they deliver within 2-3 days or even faster.

Whynot in stopover in Berlin to do some shopping at Monochrome or Foto-Impex?

Or check if Calumet in Hamburg or Berlin also have the films..

To make it from Monday to Wednesday you'd have to be lucky with any dealer - 2-3 days is the rule.

Nordfoto (http://www.nordfoto.de) has a 24-hour delivery service, but no Efke 25. Tri-X is there, though. You could order some Neopan 1600 while you're at it, it being discontinued and everything... For the low sensitivity you could take Pan F (very nice film) - or Spur Orthopan KM if you would like to try a 20 ASA ultra-high resolution microfilm 😉

Fotoimpex (http://www.fotoimpex.de) in Berlin has a good all-round selection of material, is relatively cheap, and is almost guaranteed to have Tri-X and Efke 25 (even though they probably call it Adox 25 or so, but the film is the same). You'd have to inquire about the delivery times though. You'd probably have to be lucky. You could call them now, the Berlin office works until 8 pm on Saturdays.

Monochrom (http://www.monochrom.com) has Efke 25, even though they sell it as Rollei 25 (again, same film with different label). They also have Tri-X. They have a reputation for being expensive, I never ordered with them. I think they're shipping from Kassel, which is near Hanover, but within Germany distance doesn't make a difference delivery-time-wise. Again, you have to ask about delivery times.

How do you go back to NZ? If you pass through Berlin you could also buy your things at Fotoimpex in their shop. If you pass through somewhere else, maybe there's a shop there too.

Thanks for the replies everybody! Unfortunately I'm stopping in Frankfurt, and everything will be so rushed I won't have time to go looking around.

I think it might be a case of buying some consumer 400 ISO colour film and making do with that by the looks. I may be back in Europe very soon so maybe I can stretch the paper and last remnants of my last 30m roll of KB25 until I'm back 🙂

Efke 25 is comming from Fotokemika in Croatia. Rollei Pan 25 has been produced by Filmotec (Orwo) and is an improved copy of their NP15 film.

Adox 25 - 50 -100 are 100% Efke 25 - 50 - 100 repackings. They are still made according the Dr. Schleussner/Dupont receipt of the 50's. Only Efke changed the base to clear Polyester a few years ago. Efke 25 and 50 are Orthopan films while the iso 100 version is Panchromatic.

Thanks for the correction. My bad of course, I keep getting confused with all the repackaging and renaming that keeps going on. I guess at some point someone should put together a table with the various names and what's in them.

Call them up and explain your situation. They take their time, but with my last order I explained it's urgent and they shipped the same day.

I live in Hanover, and had some stuff delivered from Hamburg - usually takes a day.

In the past (before 2003) Maco had a lot of Efke films in their program. This changed in 2003/2004 when they had better products from (Agfa) Gevaert in Belgium. Pan 25 and Ortho 25 are from Filmotec, old type OrWo technology. R3 was partial done by Forte (Hungary) and because the company went in banckruptcy (2007) it was not possible to produce this film again.
Retro 100/400 was existing APX 100/400 stock from Agfa Photo, they went in banckruptcy end 2005. Rollei-Maco bought the whole raw material. Retro 100/400 is running at the end now.

All new IR, Retro 80S/400S Super Pan 200 are comming from Gevaert (Aviation films), extended red sensitivity.
Confection is done by Foma and Efke on 120 roll films. The own receipt PO100C (2002/2003 at that time by Efke), now Retro 100 TONAL is also made by Gevaert now. They have a pretty good Q.C. in Mortsel, Belgium. So all materials Rollei-Maco is selling now is pretty good.

If you stop over in Frankfurt rather than merely transit within Frankfurt Airport, GM Foto in the Taunusstrasse, directly at the main station (less than an hour there and back from the airport, and in walking distance of most major hotels), still have a fridge or two of film.
