Delta 3200 @ 1600 - Dev @ 3200?

So I'm nearing the end of a roll of delta 3200 that I've exposed at 1600. I was planning to develop it at the givin time for 1600 but I've read elsewhere that i should still develop for the 3200 time. Just looking for someone to shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

depends which developer. So which developer are you going to use?
I would suggest Ilford DDX at 1+4 20degC for 15 to 18 minutes.

If you had exposed at 3200 then I would have said Ilford Microphen Stock 20degC for 9mins.

Microphen would be a lot grainier but gives a whole stop extra speed over DDX using the times I have given you.

If you exposed at 1000 then Xtol would probably be better and give you the finest grain of the three.

You could use Xtol at higher speed with extra development but you would get contrastier negatives than either of the first two.

Thanks for the info. I currently have a little d76 left and was planning on using that at 1:1.

If you exposed the film at 1600, yet develop it for 3200, your negatives will be over-developed by a stop. They will have all the grain and contrast of a 3200 negative, but be more dense - lighter in the print - so you will need to compensate at printing/scanning time.

I've found Ilford's times for D3200 are too short to produce negs that suit me. But it varies across developers and just saying that the 3200 times are right for 1600 is incorrect. Try cutting ~4-6 frames off the start and developing them at your best guess time, then use that as the basis to work out the correct time. Or you could shoot another roll in similar light and use that to fine tune your times.

I would avoid D76 - for 1600+ speeds - TMax developer, Microphen, or DDX work better. At 1250 or below Xtol is best.
