DeNoise: anyone used it?

I have been using Topaz Denoise for a while. Does this one have a demo to try?

I did try it a few years back and found it worked very well. But more recently I have been using the Nik product which is at least as good and probably better.

Does it trade detail, texture, etc, for reduced grain? Hard to tell in the small samples above, but the denoised one appears very slightly softer looking.

I got the email announcing this at a discount. For some strange reason I was reading its name as Denoise like Francoise instead of DeNoise.....I did wonder why they called it that. Mustn't have been firing on all cylinders yesterday.

Yes me too. And its promise reminds me of cures for teenage spots. Still if it works......??

Of course it does. Every noise filtering algorithm does. After data is acquired, it is impossible to increase the signal-to-noise ratio. The total information content remains constant. In the case of digital image rendering pixels with more uncertainty (a.k.a. noise) are cleverly averaged with pixels with less uncertainty.

Whenever one De-Noises, one also De-Signals.

So the challenge is to achieve the optimum balance of information averaging. Some software apps provide more flexibility and more tools which make it easier to achieve the most aesthetic rendering.

I am sorry to say, but I was never really satisfied with Franzis products, I'm afraid.

I prefer NIK or PhotoNinja.

For your information. If you click on the picture you will be taken to Flickr. Here you click on the arrow pointing down. (Lower right corner). Then you choose view all sizes, then choose original.
This should keep pixel peepers happy.

Thanks Micheal, that's pretty impressive... and interesting in that the effect is variable. Much smoother sky, while the nearby waves still look grainy, and there's some unnatural smoothing of rock surfaces. All in all, though, impressive!

I Just Tried The Free Trial And I Was Not Satisfied With It. I Have Been Using Neat Image For A While Now And For Me It Does A Much Better Job Than Denoise.
