I'll be lecturing in Lahore in January and February and shooting HP5+ in a Leica M3 + Rigid Summicron during my free time. But, I will also take an M2 to shoot some colour film for PowerPoint and publicity purposes. The black-and-white film can wait to be developed on my return to Ireland, but ...

It would make sense to have the C41 developed and scanned onto CD while I'm still Pakistan, hence my question: Where in Lahore are the labs that will do this well?

Hello Sean,

I was last there in 1999, I found a mini-lab for the rolls I had accumulated by asking a motorbike-trike-taxi driver and being taken to two until I found one I liked. I wasn't in to photography then and only chose because the man was wearing cotton gloves 🙂

If Pakistan is anything like India, I presume people have switched to digital quickly, but ask around when you get there and it will be a fun way to spend a morning and a good excuse for exploring.

I found the city slightly depressing, but I had a fever, couldn't find booze and India and Pakistan were preparing for war (and my parents are from the other side of the border). I'm sure you'll like it though, there is a lot of history there.

Ah, that explains it Don. Those must have been interesting times.

Thanks for your tips, Kully. I don't drink, so that won't be a problem. Your idea of treating the search for decent C41 processing as a little adventure is very appealing. No doubt I'll meet some intersting local residents en route.

All the best,

Sean
