There is something magical about this. I had the same feeling when watching They Shall Not Grow Old. I tend to forget that folks have always been just folks. See, e.g.:
My kids will be able to watch 100 year old movies with no problem. For instance, The Maltese Falcon is 82 years old as of this writing and they will be able to see how folks dressed (Men in Hats!), intuit the mores, hear the speech patterns of folks long gone. I wonder what the effect will be of having this archive? What would it be like, for instance, if we could see and hear Lincoln giving the Gettysburg Address?
It's quite something to catch a glimpse of those old shadows.
