I stopped by Devils Tower on my way to vacation in Minnesota. I've camped and hiked here before, but I wanted to try a little IR photography and it was only an hour's detour on my road trip.

I took some film shots as well with my Fuji G690 BL and might post them later.

These are just a few quick shots I took during the 30 minute visit to the park. Now I wish I took a longer visit to get just the right shot/setups, but these'll do!

All were shot with a stock Fuji X100S and a Hoya R72 720nm IR filter. The X100S really works well with the IR filter as it has a very weak hot mirror on the CMOS.

I'd say that was a successful detour. Your first image, with direct sun on the tower, is my favorite of the four. Do share your film images as well, it would be an interesting comparison.

Great effect. Do you know if the IR mirror on later model x100 series with later sensors is similar? I think the X-Trans sensor may play a part in this as the dyes in Bayer sensors may be different along with site pattern and extra green/site? Don't know, just guessing.

How sensitive is the X100s to IR? Where you handholding? Great shots. 1,2 and 4 are really nice. Post the film shots too when you get a chance

I'd love to visit that place.
I experimented with IR a little with my old X100 (as well as M8, M9, D2Hs, D2x and D3.) I finally broke down and bought an inexpensive D70 converted to IR. It's fun stuff!
These are a nice series you shot though the first is my favorite.
Makes me think of this too:

I've heard that the X100S doesn't shoot IR very well. They changed the sensor design between the X100S and X100S and must have added a stronger hot mirror.

These were shot at base ISO and at 1 second at f5.6, so they were all done on a tripod. Handheld is doable starting at around ISO640 and f4 or so.

I especially liked 1, 3, and 4. Very nice effect and great shots.

Thanks. I've not had a converted camera yet, but it is definitely something I'd like to have one day.

Well, I developed and scanned in the roll I shot through my Fuji G690BL medium format camera. These were all shot on Across 100 and developed in Pyrocat MC for 12.5 minutes. Scanned in with an Epson V750 Pro negative scanner.

The light in these wasn't the best. I waited a little for the right light with my digital IR images. For these images I just snapped the photos without waiting for good light, and it shows.

You mean X100 T & F have stronger IR hot mirrors or just the X100F ?
I know the F has a different sensor design.

I couldn't quite decode it with your typo.

Thanks. pkr

Sorry, my tablet autocorrected it.

The X100F does not work as well as the X100S. I am not sure about the X100T as I haven't looked into that one.

I completely understand, mine too often over or under corrects and my corrected text is re-corrected as I post. Proof reading doesn't make it as it did before tablets and monster auto correct. Thanks.
