Diafine impressions.

Considering I no longer want to chuck my tank out the window and I was getting sick of D76, I acquired some Diafine. Results: much better than D76. I don' tknow about grain yet since I just got them developed and they're still drying, but I'm hoping that the boyfriend wouldn't begrudge me a stop at 59 Minute Photo to have them scanned.

I even developed a partial roll that I took out of my Argus C3 and, while only one frame came out due to my stupidity (I forgot there was an actual roll of film in the camera), even that looks good. Diafine is lovely! I'm so happy with it.

The real test, however, will be how it does with my Pan-F. I'm not expecting greatness, of course, and since I hear that the grain is a bit high I'm not expecting really great negatives...but I feel it's worth a shot anyway.

Edit: I'll try and put up some scans tonight, but it may be tomorrow before I get close enough to a computer to do it. The boyfriend and I have plans that in no way involve computers tonight.

I've done two rolls in Diafine so far, Plus-x at IE250 and TMax 100 at IE160. Both were developed in the same tank at the same time. Can't get much easier than that. Look in my gallery at the shots taken in Virginia with my FED3. I have some TMax 100 in 4x5 I'm waiting to try.

I dearly love my Diafine, I just wish it would play nice with my Tmax400 sheet film. So I picked up some D-76 for that use today. But I'll still use everything else in the Diafine 😀

William, the first few negs of sheet film that I developed (in a 5x7 tray) suffered from uneven development (it was d76). I switched to 8x10 trays and all was fine. It seems that the extra turbulance around the edges of the smaller 5x7 tray caused the uneven development. I'm not sure if this applies to your case, but I just wanted to get that off my chest. 🙂

Don't know if it applies here either, but it's good to hear about it. I've been doing the sheets in my patterson tank, but I'm going to try using sandwich sized covered trays in my changing bag as well to see what works best sans a real dark room (and hence enough room for a 8x10 tray... )

I got a couple of shots earlier today at my parents farm of my little guy feeding grandma's pet pig, so hopefully I'll have something to test on Monday night.
