Rats, lost a film. Last week my Diafine was developing just fine. This week, completely clear negatives. I guess it was 2 years old, but I'd started to regard it as infallible :D

Oh well, time to buy some more. Well worth the money!

Hey,

Was there any change in the appearance of the baths? Anything that indicated it was knackered?

I normally soup five rolls at a time in this and I'd hate for this to happen :(

That's what happens when it gets exhausted - it stops just like that. I still have a 2 year old batch that I am using, but still have replenisher left. This keeps it going apparently.

When the replenisher runs out it's time to order a new batch.

My batch is getting up there in age too, just about 2 years. I have 4 rolls sitting on my desk. I may do a single before processing a bunch.

Or just replace it. I have gotten my money's worth from this batch. I have a second mix sitting and waiting. The dry mix should last "forever" so I bought two. I may buy 2 more just to have a stock should it ever disappear.

No I don't think so. I remember proudly looking at the murky solution A, and shaking my head in wonderment that it was still producing nice negs :D I think perhaps I'll resign myself to feeling smug with my 2 brown bottles of Rodinal, and change my Diafine every year or so from now on. It's still very very good value for money.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's weird; fine one day, dead the next.

BTW, where can I get Diafine again? Will anyone ship it overseas anymore? Huron used to, but it looks like they've closed.

I got a batch a few years ago from Adorama in the US shipped to the UK no problem. B&H on the other hand wouldn't ship it as far as I can recall. We can now get it directly in the UK.

i got it from freestyle this year (i live in the Netherlands).
But i had to pay lots of duty on the package (it was about $250 value with some films etc, duty 70$).

Does solution A or solution B die? Or both? is there a way to tell?
I would suspect it's sol B since that is the one that always gets mixed up with some sol A in the tank and then goes back into the bottle... so, slowly the working solution B should become a sloution B + solution Something...

The sticker also warns not to have ANY sol B getting into sol A. Could it be that that is the problem, after some long use it just happens by accident and then the whole sol A gets dead?

Thanks. Apparently Freestyle will ship it to me, and using USPS no less! Either they've changed their policy, or I'd forgotten what it was. Great news, and I liked my experience with Freestyle in the past, too.
