Tonaya/Leica Parts is offering a black paint Leica MP numbered 146*. The number does match with CameraQuest as a black MP. However, the number inside of the camera, while it is 146, does not have a star present.

Does anybody know what is going on here? Is the * of any significance?

I know that in LTM bodies, a * meant that the camera's serial number was "reused" from a previous body, but with the limited number of MPs produced would something like this happen?

BIN for $7500, if anybody is interested.

The * means there was a mistake and 2 cameras were marked with the same serial number. The * marked cameras are pretty rare and given that the MP's were pretty rare anyway and given that it is black paint, seven and a half large would not seem too expensive.

I wouldn't pay $7500 for a "rare" MP in any case but I would be extra wary on this one. Such lines in the description as:

I do not have, any, history of this camera or proof,of his originality ,repair ,or restored,I purchased this way and is sold this way. The camera is Sold AS/IS pleased look good a the photos and email your questions,
and
This items is sold AS/IS !!! The Sale is final will be no refund or returns,of any kind!!!
sort of ring alarm bells.

Hmmmm no chance of a return at all eh...Sounds fishy. Basically the seller is asking you to part with 7500 based on some ebay digital snaps and should you discover that it is not genuine upon persona inspection you are stuffed. With a real auction at least you would see it in person and could take your own chances. The seller wont let you do that. I would not be surprised if he got stiffed on it and is passing on the stiffing, er, if you catch my drift.
