I'm not that shallow, just interested in others' experience. I hadn't heard anything bad about this lens in terms of focus, only the 60 macro and the Xp1 generally. I'm asking so that I can differentiate between expectations that were too high or a bad sample of the lens. Ultimately I'll make my own mind up as the lens is coming anyway.

I'm waiting for my free Fuji XF 35 to arrive so the comments above are a little concerning. Any other users (X-Pro1) like to comment? I only have the 18 at the moment and find focusing perfectly acceptable in all light. Is the 35 worse than the 18?

My comments are pretty personal feelings about the lens so far. It just has not fit well with me I guess but plenty have found it to be a very excellent lens. Dont let it worry you, as they say...your experience may vary....

The auto focus performance is truly awful. I dont understand how it could be so crap, especially in this day and age. Old auto focus SLR's from the 80's and this lens on the XE1 feel about the same. Ok in good light, horrible in low light or with anything that is remotely moving.

I also dont care for the colors this lens gives off. They are very muted and dont seem to go well with my eye. But a problem that I was very surprised to find was the horrible purple fringing that the Fuji 35 suffers from. That was a real shock!

The lens is a decent lens, but its image rendering is very "Japanese" and that is a problem I have had with Nikon and Canon. I have been spoiled by Zeiss and Leica optics and the rendering qualities of those lenses.

This is completely opposite of my experience with the 35/1.4.

With the most recent camera and lens firmware I have no issues with AF, even in light metering at f 1.4, 1/15 at ISO 400. When I was learning the X-Pro 1 (with older firmware) the AF would occasionally focus on an unintended subject with high contrast behind the intended subject with lower contrast. However the 35/1.4 has older, slower AF motor technology. So the 35/1.4 AF takes longer to switch from a 30 ft distance to a 3 ft distance than the newer lenses. Still, the firmware upgrades make a difference.

It is true the X-Pro 1 and XE bodies do not track moving objects well.

I have never seen purple fringing, even with high contrast edges in raw files over exposed by up to two stop .

The color/contrast/tonality of any lens is a subjective judgement.

And, Photozone.s tests shows the Zeiss is sharper at wider apertures. However Phtozone also reported,"The AF is comparatively slow but this may be also related to our current test camera (X-E1). The focus accuracy was generally fine. The noise level is noticeable albeit still fairly low. Manual focusing works "by wire" so you actually trigger the AF drive when turning the focus ring. We weren't especially thrilled by its accuracy and smoothness but it is "good enough". It is worth to mention that we had to return the first sample due to a severe centering issue - which was actually quite disappointing for such a pricey and rather simple lens."
