Did I miss something

Perhaps not.

But the guy was never offensive, never used bad language, never said anything he wouldn't have said if he had been sitting in a bar talking photography. He never upset me.

I can't figure it.

He will perhaps never know whether the flash on his camera is first or second curtain sync. That the sort of think he likes to know.

He got banned? Why? I never took offence to his postings, unlike to postings of some others who ended up on my ignore list. Very odd.

poor Granovski. Yes, he is/was a hemi-troll at times. He did try to spark discussion, but IMHO he was much gentler at RFF than at photo.net. Of course, I think that the folks at RFF are more tolerant, and less easily provoked that the Pnet folks. The dictum here is to ignore trolls, and let their posts expire peacefully. May it ever be so.

Thanks for this comment Mark, George and others. I agree, Frank was a good member here, I regret that stuff has changed.

Let me add for everyone, use the ignore feature here at RFF, or, ignore the comments of certain members if that is your wish. Everyone who is wishes to contribute and participate at RFF in a respectful and courteous way is welcome.

Just for the record, Frank was not banned. He got upset about some things and decided to leave. He made a post saying goodbye and has since been busy deleting all his posts including that one.

The guy never offended anybody that I know of.

He was like Homer Simpson or Hank Hill. A nice guy to have around.

Please mods, live and let live.

The last I heard of him was on a thread a couple of days ago named "Do You Name Your Camera". Frank made a joke about Leica users and Joe came in and asked him to cool it because he was tired of getting PM's from Lecia users complaining about Frank's anti-Leica jokes. At that point, several of us, including myself, came to Frank's defense and the thread turned into a humorous one about dissing each other's cameras and especially about Leica users being so thin-skinned. In the middle of the discussion, Frank came back in and said he thought that this would be his last post on RRF. I thought he was just joking. Obviously not. He will be missed. He had a supreme rye sense of humor. Something this place could do a little more with every now and then.

Yes, I actually thought Joe was joking that the Leica users were PM'ing him about Frank. But I'm afraid that was not the case. Strange, isn't it?

I don't think it was just Leica users that were PM-ing Joe. I imagine that a few (or more) just regular RFF users objected to his virtual spamming us with 2000+ posts in a couple of months. Most of the threads started by him were just for his enjoyment. I say this as someone who posted negative about him and then apologized to him and yes, he did help me out with that ebay seller up his way in Canada.

For the record, what happened at PNET was worse. he received many warnings about his number of postings- many "silly" ones ...- i.e.- "What is this button for on my GSN?" "Do pristine black lenses take better photos?"... Yada, Yada, Yada... and some about their offensive content. He responded by upping the output, then he got banned by the moderators there, then re-registered under several fake names and kept up the attack. It's all still there for anyone to look up.

Thems the facts.

If a guy is jokey why do we PM the Mod's?

We can't we just ignore their posts, or join in the joke, as we choose?

I think this is a good point Jon. There is room for some "goofyness" here at RFF. Heck, have you seen some of my posts?

Please continue this conversation.

Everyone, please keep the discussion civil and positive though so that we can learn from it. It is fine right now, I just don't want it to turn.

There are a great many threads on RFF, it would be very easy for someone to join and rack up a high number of posts very quickly. I can't believe anyone would be so petty-minded as to complain about a prolific poster! Especially considering some of the nonsense posts all over RFF posted by 'regulars'.
I read the camera naming thread, I saw nothing that could possibly warrant complaint from anyone. I think a few people need to get themselves a sense of humour or, as has already been stated, thicker skins.

www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20057 Here is the link to the Name Your Camera thread if anyone is interested. I liked Frank. I liked his goofiness. I am not so uptight to worry about how many posts a guy has or whatever. I liked Frank when he was on photonet. Except over there, everyone on the Leica forum takes themselves so seriously that you need to come armed just to post there. Frank has a knack for pissing people off every now and then. That's okay. It just adds a little spice to the mix. 😎

I will miss him.

Those who might have become p*d about Frank have probably ignored that he regularly signed with "IMHO, Frank". And opinions he did have!

I like opinions. Even if they are contrary to mine, they are like signposts in a desert of equivocal boredom.

I think that I'm the "Frank" with that signature line. I'm still here. I don't worry too much about which lens is sharper. I prefer to think of myself as the "big picture" Frank. FrankG did not offend me with his posts and I am a Leica owner. Lots of his posts I didn't bother with though.

Hmm. I imagine these sorts of situations are more common in chatrooms populated by 12-year-olds.

Perhaps we could start a thread titled "How thick is a your camera's skin?"

On the other hand, erasing one's existance, becoming an unperson from Orwell's "1984," might not be the most common response.

I'm probably thick-headed rather than thin-skinned, but I don't understand why someone would be criticized for too many posts. I only follow perhaps 10 percent of the threads at any time, and those who do a lot of posting, among other things, help keep the interesting threads up toward the top. I don't agree with everyone -- and more than one member here is probably full of a lot of hooey, in my personal opinion. But one of the reasons I enjoy visiting here is to be exposed to many different viewpoints, not all of which I will agree with, not all of which come from people I take seriously.

Jesko said it with far more clarity that I did.

For me all this PMing to the mods, complaining about the opinion, discussion style or behaviour of other members stinks ! There is always a smell of denunciatory cowardice around these PMs, and for the mods i suppose it to look like somebody tells them how they have to do their work., no matter how fine it is iced with bootlicking.

Somehow this stinks like old grandmas calling the police because somebody runs his stereo on full power next door , or, ( "Mrs Müller-Lüdenscheid, Peter has called me a bedwetter again !!") those teltales who were ALWAYS beaten up after school 😀

Franks threads often were not funny , rather goofy, sometimes obviously provocative, and sometimes one could consider them beeing destructive in a way that he seemed to have fun with all the stupid answers he could provoke.

He wasn't ever impolite tho or rude as far as I remember, and not a evil minded character in general in my opinion.

Maybe he now went off because he has seen, that you are stupid yourself if you stay at a place, where you consider the very most folks as beeing stupid.
That does not make any sense, in the long run contradicticon, provocation and controverse can't be the only purpose to come here.
