Did I miss something

I'm sure a lot of animosity carried over from Photo.net, where FrankG offended many more people. Here, he tried to keep a lid on it.

I'm sure it was my fault, shattering his sharpness universe by posting the pictures from the original version 43~86 Zoom-Nikkor. Worst lens ever made by Nikon, and he was forced to admit that they were sharp. He's probably selling all of his RF gear and buying Nikkors for his FM2T.

Looking at the camera naming post, Frank G. got a lot of support from forum members including the master moderator. Perhaps we're blaming the wrong thin-skinned people.

Yes, I actually thought Joe was joking that the Leica users were PM'ing him about Frank. But I'm afraid that was not the case. Strange, isn't it?

to all of you who PMed the mods because some guy made a joke about Leica users: Comman guys, that's just sad... 🙄

We're doing a whole lot of speculating about what may have happened and how, without having all the information. PM's were sent from members to Joe, and between Joe and FrankG. What was said in those PM's, I don't want to know.

How about we simply respect FrankG's choice to leave, wish him well, and move forward from here?

Erasing one's entire existance is a few steps beyond choosing to leave. When you post that often, it puts gaps in existing threads for those of us who've chosen to stay. It upsets a lot of the continuity of the forum. I'd say that Frank G. never offended me with anyting he wrote, but I do find the erasure of his threads and posts unsettling.

I believe with 99% certainty that FrankG erased his own posts, NOT the moderator(s). If Joe did erase those posts, it would have been at FrankG's request.

This is correct Frank, we (Joe Kim or I) did not erase any posts.

This turn of events is depressing. I'm going to get away from the computer for awhile and go take some photographs.

Perhaps the new mods wanted to ban somebody to encourage the rest of us to be on our best behavior?

Perhaps Joe should have told the 'thin-skinned Leica' people to cool it instead.

Perhaps somebody should take his own advice and cool his own head before jumping to conclusions and broadcasting them and making broad assumptions about people he doesn't know.

This is not necessary, Kim advised that Frank has not been banned and has acted based on his own choice and Jon accepted that explanation.

OK Rover. I missed it then. This thread has become very noisy, and the server is also painfully slow, so it's become particularly difficult to follow things this morning. I hope you understand. To the casual reader, the comments sounded as if there indeed is something going on with the moderators, and with a section of the RFF community in particular.

My apologies to Jon.

It's the nature of an online site that people come and go, but I find it disconcerting when someone leaves unexpectedly and emotionally. My best to Frank G and perhaps he will return.

I also miss the postings of those members who have left quietly or who seldom post any more.

Agreed Gene.

Hasn't Granovski's account been erased? I don't think the user has the ability to erase his own account.

Honestly (tipping my hand here that I don't know how to use all these fancy moderator tools) I don't know. 🙂

If things go right I won't every figure out how to do that stuff. 😉

Just for the record, Frank was not banned. He got upset about some things and decided to leave. He made a post saying goodbye and has since been busy deleting all his posts including that one.

Kim

Kim,

Deleting all of his posts is annoying because it leaves gaps in the threads. Anyone who posted in a thread that Frank started will see their post count decrease when he deletes those threads.

Ralph, can't you change his password so he can't delete any more posts?

R.J.

That would be better left to Jorge or Joe who are more familiar with the workings of stuff like that. I am in a learning mode, so I am careful not to click a button that I don't know what it does. The thread and post tools are easy to use, member stuff is not in my comfort zone yet.

Since his account does not exist anymore, he must be finished deleting.
But I agree, threads with deleted posts make absolutely no sense at all anymore. Very sad, indeed.
