I liked Frank. His posts were the chafe-and-chuckle kind, and I'll miss them.

A lot of forums put retention periods on threads, and set them to archive/not archive. If they are "no archive", they vanish on their own.
If FrankG wants to leave using a scorched Earth policy, using features that have always been enabled on RFF, Okay. He is not breaking any rules. As for Posts counts going down, big deal. I have plenty of BS in reserve.

Okay. I am still confused. (I know, no big surprise) I read the "Camera Naming Thread" and saw that Frank posted that he wears a shirt "I'm with stupid" and an arrow points to his Leica, Joe gets PMs from insulted Leica users, Frank gets a waring, then Frank quits RFF in a huff and uses the scorched earth policy and takes all his threads and posts with him.
Was THAT all there was? I mean, is that ALL that Frank did, and was the warning ALL that sent him over the edge? Or did I miss something else? It all doesn't sound like that big a deal to up and quit over that. Or am I trying to rationalize the actions of a barely (if at all) rational person? (Frank)

I'm not into this PM thing. I've never sent a PM and never received a PM. And I've certainly never PM'd the moderators.
What is it with members who use this method to get at people such as Frank G?
This may have been bullying/hazing and the victim has left us and the aggressors are still with us.

Yes it can be annoying. If he started the thread, by deleting the first post he will delete the thread. If he was replying, he can only delete "his" posts on that thread. Brian has given a good answer as to post count. Any "holes" can make a thread more difficult to follow but as has been pointed out with the camera name thread, most can work out what is missing.

I've just come across this thread and I'd like my 2cents worth. I'm fairly new here and two of the people who were welcoming and encouraging to me have gone. The other one was desmo who was knowledgable and entertaining. It's a sorry state when whining, over-sensitive, PC crazed members dictate the status quo to the rest of us. I'm very sorry that Frank G has gone, it should have been his antagonists.

everyone seems to want to know what happened.
first, frank g has not been banned.
he has been deleted, which means all his posts are now marked as 'guest'
any posts that are missing have been deleted by frank himself, not any rff folks.
the camera naming thread seems to have been a catalyst for frank. he said he was leaving rff, i sent a p.m. to him.
his reply was over the top and not very nice to me.
seems he believes that i am in cahoots with those that don't like him and that i have taken up their side and that i have attacked him on more than one occasion.
and apparently i have a preference for certain butts which i like to kiss.
i do not believe any of this to be true on my part.
i originally invited frank here from p.net and when he showed up, i welcomed him.
i have treated him with respect throughout and have come to his support on a number of occasions.
there have been p.m.'s to me ever since frank appeared here complaining and or warning me about him.
i took it in stride at first but eventually i began to tire of it.
i asked frank, quite sincerely, to please stop the leica bashing.
this was too much to ask, i guess.
frank pulled out and is now starting to register under different names - the same as he did at p.net - i expect we will see him occasionally trying to invoke some small riot or 2.
i ask that you ignore any posts that are obviously trolling for a reaction.
i do not want to ban frank g because i actually have no hard feelings toward him...although he does now think not too highly of me.
he can re-register under his own name and rejoin rff as a member.
those that dislike him i would ask that you just ignore him.

my philosophy at rff has always been one of inclusion not exclusion.
that has not changed.

What does it say about the members that started PM'ing Joe from the very beginning of Frank's appearence here on RRF? Sometimes this place becomes so sterile it is frightening. I still visit here at least once a day, sometimes more. I enjoy reading most of the posts. The one's that don't interest me, I skip- I damn sure don't PM a moderator and complain. As far as warnings go- you've got to be kidding. Maybe the moderators should set up a some type of system where each new member can be evaulated before joining. That way we can keep the forum pure for a certain few that are easily offended.

I never noticed anything to be offended about in his Leica postings. He was taking the piss with fetishists much of the time (good for him), but I did think many of his other posts seemed a bit nutty. A unique method of trolling for responses and attention (compared to "<x> IS A HITLER" - insert your favorite Clinton/Bush/Blair/Chretien where appropriate), really.

Joe, Ralph and Kim are among the most reasonable, level-headed people here. I certainly doubt that any number of PM's sent by complaining members would make Joe decide to delete another member. If he did so, I am sure he had a good reason. I do not know the facts, and I certainly will not second-guess him. In fact, even if I did know the facts, I do not presume to have the right to do so.
The moderating here, at least in my experience, has been very even-handed and non-restrictive. Any "sterility" in the forum's content is hardly due to the moderation. As regards politically inflammatory photos, that is Jorge's business. This forum, as with many things, is what you want to make of it. Or not.

He was not kicked out, then why did he react like that (deleting all his posts)? Same thing happened at Pnet. Is that a behavioural pattern? Then, he'll be back under another name, like he did before on the other site.

I've been kicked off one site for having the word 'fat' in the title of a photograph as one of the more sensitive members was ermm ...fat! Another contributing factor may have been, when questioning a member why he photographed his subject from behind a tree, he replied he tried it from behind the subject and it wasn't as good! I've found like-minded photographers here and hate to see this site go the same way.
