Did I Miss the Boat on Goggled Summarons?

It seems to me that last year when I was thinking about getting a goggled 35mm f2.8 Summaron for my M3 they were running around $300-400. Now that I am actually trying to purchase one, it seems like they are running $500-800.

Do I just need to be patient on finding a deal or is there some dynamic unknown to me that is driving prices up? I feel like if I am dropping $800 on one of these that I should just save up the extra $400 and get a v4 Summicron next year when I can afford it.

It adds a noticeable amount of weight to what already is a somewhat heavy camera. Certainly, there are better and more modern wide angle lens options.

But you know how it is: Once something in demand, everyone wants one (iPhone, etc.).

I recall a few years back that some people were bidding on the possibility of buying a new digital slr. They weren't bidding on the camera, just for the right to stand in line and be among the first to buy it. I think some people paid $150 so that they could stand in line. How ridiculous does that seem today?

Prices for these lenses is clearly up. Your numbers are exactly what I have been seeing, recently and previously. Summicron prices are up too, all well over $1,000 if you are not patient and shop carefully. Be smart, shop around and pay attention to the classifieds here. One will show up for a reasonable amount eventually.

It's a good lens, every bit as good as the Nikkor 3.5cm F2.5.

I cannot see paying over $500 for one. They are great on an M3, not necesary on others.

I have sold a couple of these recently, they are going in the $800-$1000 range for really nice ones. Don't rule out the 35/3.5 version either. These are in the $250 range.
