Did I once read here about someone who modifies Contax G- series lenses to M- mount?

You know, the Zeiss 45mm f/2 Planar for the G1 and G2.

I have heard of the wide angles being modified - mostly the 16mm and the 21mm. They cannot be rangefinder coupled as far as I understand. The place that was doing it, and it's expensive, is in Japan. Maybe someone here has a link to the website.

The guy at the URL above does it in Japan. I have been toying with the idea, but haven't worked up the courage to try to communicate with him. That would be something, wouldn't it? A 45/2 lens that worked with my RD-1? Great lens on the Contax G2.

I looked into this too, with RFF member Roger who lives in Japan. We were a bit disappointed to learn it's not simply an adapter that allows various G lenses to fit an M body, but rather a permanent re-locating the glass lens elements into a new lens barrel. So the cost is applied to each lens modified, and there's no going back. I think this operation no longer makes much sense, given the easy economical availability of the Zeiss ZM series lenses.

Woulda liked to run around with a hot-rodded 45mm lens on the CL, though. The forty's just a little too short, and I already have a fifty.
