The only problem with 3rd party hoods is that they should not block the viewfinder, e.g. the cylindrical Hoya hoods should be ok, and they turn up in camera shop junk boxes, if you find a 49mm one you need a step ring as well but you can then also use the cheaper 49mm filters, also from junk boxes.

Alas I only have a 28mm lens so cannot join in the hood dialogue properly, I have GG1.

In fact, you can make a nice lens "hood" just by putting together 2-3 step-up rings, customizing the size and amount of flare according to your needs. I do this for my 28 and 45 lenses on my G2 and it works great.

It is worth while using acrlic blackboard paint on 'inside step' pf each step ring if you do this, and the 'hood' will also accept snap in lens caps, obviously.

The problem with these Chinese replicas is that they may not fit totally and they do not look the same as the original plus the paint is much more vulnerable. I had problems fitting the shade cover on an original Contax metal shade and the felt inside can come off easily. I had to force the cap on the shade and kept it there for a week to get the felt inside to fit properly. The color of the paint is a little different from the original body and lens color, a bit more to the "champagne". Moreover the paint gets too many scratches compared to the original that, after a couple of weeks out there shooting, the caps look really ugly and spoils the overall look. I may be a bit intolerant but when I have set of gems in my hand, the fake gadgets just do not look righton them. I am going to exchange the 3 caps and the hood I currently have as soon as I can.
