I bought all my gear used. For 5 years i've purchased 2 M6, 1 M3 and 1 MP. The only one i will never sell is the black M6 i bought for my 25 birthday. That 1988's camera had been used and abused (by me and former user) but it's smoother than any other one. The M3 was really smooth too and well built. The chrome M6 from 1996 and the chrome MP from 2005 were nice cameras but far to be as comfy to play with than their older brothers, so i sold them.

A user-condition late M2, off evil bay for $600. Have been eating up roll after roll of Tri-X ever since. I might look for an M4/M4-P, or maybe a Zeiss Ikon, but right now I am very happy with my M2 and Bessa R3M.

I have only bought used Leica cameras. They all worked well.
The M3 looked like new, with factory warranty card, and the M6 looked also very nice. The two CL bodies looked well used, but both worked well, with accurate meters. The Hexar RF needed a new eye piece, and a screw for the frame selector, and then it worked like a charm. The M5 looked fine, but I sold it to get the M3. The M4-MOT looked used well, and I sold it too. They were/are all great cameras for usage.

I bought a Demo M6TTL 0.58 about ten years ago, when prices were reasonable and it was the only way to buy those, then shortly after that replaced two summicrons, new, with some insurance cash. All the rest was bought used.

But really, the poll can only go in one direction: These are cameras living and working happily for 70 years, and they are bought new only once. So it's simple maths: you have to have much more Leicas changing hands used than new. I would guess the same goes for, say, a Nikon F or F2...

I bought my MP plus the 24f2.8, 35f2 and 50f1.4 ASPH's new. M3, IIIf, IId, Minilux and all my other Leica lenses used.

A used Leica M-body in good condition is a beautiful thing.

Bought my first Leica (a very clean M6 classic) on RFF from a fellow member 18 months ago, and haven't regretted it. Beautiful camera. Like one of the original posters said at the beginning of this thread, it makes me feel 'zingy' inside when I use it.

Bought Used: M8.2 & M9 along with several used Leica, Zeiss, & Voigtlander lens.

Bought New: a couple of new Leica & Voigtlander lens as well.

Sold the M8.2, Zeiss 25/2.8 and Leica Cron 35/2 to finance the used M9.

. . . . . it doesn't end . . . . . . picked up a used M7 this past weekend!

A little off target, but this thread made me realize that I've never owned a new camera. Not one, of any kind. The Nikon 85 1.8 AF D lens is the only new gear I've ever owned.

My new/used ratio for cameras is fairly even, but it's all the pricey ones bought used. I like to support companies making film gear when I can, so I've bought new Lomo and Voigtlander gear. Leica/Rollei/Hasselblad stuff for me is not really viable for new purchase, it would all add up to a fortune if new.

I bought my M3 used. When it was made, I was nine years old.

Leica M3, VC Color Skopar 50mm f/2.5, Tmax400.

I bought my M6 new way back in 1986. For the last 10 years or so it has sat forlornly on a shelf while I got distracted by digital. Fortunately I've recently seen the light and now it goes everywhere with me :) .

cheers,
clay
