Not talking about AF/MF issues, but optically. How if in any way, is the 45 Planar different from the 50 ZM, or the 35 Biogon G from the 35 Planar 2.0?

As far as my understanding, there are no real discernible differences between the two. You can google and probably find the optical make-ups of each and see for yourself. Both Gs and ZMs ,were and are, made by Cosina in Japan.

Actually I'm pretty sure Kyocera built their G lenses with Zeiss supervision. Not that it matter to the OPs question

Mr. Rockwell claims that the G 28 is equal to the ZM 28. It's up to you to gauge his credibility however...

My bad. Contax G lenses were manufactured by Kyocera. The ZM lenses are manufactured by Cosina. Both series of lenses are designed by Zeiss and manufactured under license from Zeiss Germany.
