Before I had my R-D1 I spent quite some time at the official Leica forum.
A funny thing that I noticed was the fact that these folks constantly talk specs.
The difference between the 1.2 lens and the 1.4 etc.
But when I look at the photo's taken, I am not very impressed.
Here at the Rangefinderforum the artistic level of photograpy is higher
and the 'silly' techtalk is less.
Here I see great (artistic) photography taken with simple Bessa's.
Different audiance, different photography.
Hope nobody finds this post offensive, since that was not the idea.

Leica is a luxury item as well as being a highly capable camera. In the car world there are plenty of rich people who aren't great drivers who own "garage jewellry". When you see them on track on (either racing or just on a circuit day) the phrase "All the gear and no idea" comes to mind - they're the ones with the Sparco nomex overalls like the pros wear whereas the really quick guys are bumming around in oily boiler suits
Of course there are many Leica shooters who do know what they're doing...
I'm an R-D1 user because it was the only way for me to stretch to a digital rangefinder system financially. I have some share options due next year which might just tempt me in to the M8 system although I really should be being sensible and buying a house!

$5k won't get you a house. Buy the camera!

Difference between Leica M users and R-D1 users?
Well, no scanner.
At least for a couple more weeks.
