A newbie question..

..What are the differences between the earlier and later version of the Xpan and the Tx-I. In addition, are there any differences between the Fuji and Hasselblad versions?

Thanks.

No difference between the Hasselblad branded and the Fuji branded XPan's, they are the same apart from the colour.

XPan II:
Longer B exposure time, up to 540 seconds, exposure time in the viewfinder.

The lenses and bodies are all made by Fuji in Japan, and aside from aesthetics, should be identical and inter-changeable.

The all black Fuji body looks better ( anyone know if the paint adherence is better ? )
The all black Hasselblad lenses look better
🙂

The biggest difference for me between the Mk I and II models is that you can set the Mk II to wind a roll back into the case mid-way, but leave the leader tab out, so you can swop films mid-roll without having to worry about wasting film.

Filmboy, I could foresee this function being very handy for me also, as I would be using both slide and negative film often.

Thanks.

one more question..well 2 actually..firstly is the shutter very loud on these systems? for instance, when used for events such as weddings or street photography.
Secondly, how do you rate the optical quality of the lens. I would be using it mainly at f4 (events/street photos) and f11 (landscape).

Thanks in advance again for any comments.

The shutter is very quiet - not quite as quiet as certain other prestige rangefinder brands, but a noticeable improvement on the SLRs of my experience. People would have to be stood pretty close to hear it. And in an actual wedding service presumably some of the congregation would hear it - but then in weddings these days (at least the ones I've been to recently) many people take photos of the event with pocket digital cameras anyway, so I think tolerance levels to cameras being used has probably increased.

The 45mm lens (the only one I've got 🙁 ) is a top quality lens, both in terms of build quality and results. One day soon I shall also own the 90mm...

i have the tx-1

1. the shutter is superb, its quiet, smooth, and not much vibration at all.

2. i don't know about the 45, but i have the 30 and the picture quality is stunningly sharp from corner to corner, and very contrasty. however if you compare it to a leica lens photo it does portray a somewhat modern japanese lens feel if you know what i mean, i am not quite sure if this is the way to describe it.....

interestingly when i first got it i thought the shutter speed not being displayed in the VF is kinda dumb but i soon discovered it being quite useful as i shoot with the 30mm lens (i need to look at the external VF anyway)

oops i should clarify a bit....
the shutter is not going to be as quiet as a mamiya 6 or 7, and not going to be as vibration free as the M.
but all things considered for an electronic metal shutter it is very quiet and smooth and much quieter than any camera normally used in a wedding

Don't forget, it's not a SLR, no hammering mirror, the shutter is very qiuet, the noise is made be the motor winder while advancing the film.

The optical quality of the lens is superb as you can expect it from a camera with the Hasselblad logo on it.

I have all three lenses (30,45,90). All are very good, esp. stopped down 2-3 stops.

The 30 is to die for. The system comes alive on the 30.
