Differences between Elements (Mac) V4-- and Lightroom (Mac).

An M8 is on order. I have been using a film scanner and Elements for several years and am reasonably competent with it.* Lightroom has come up on several threads as being just the thing for M8 files.* What are the differences?* What does Lightroom offer, that Elements (or the latest Photoshop rendition, for that matter) does not offer?* They are all from Adobe. I really don't have a "workflow" as such.* About 1 in 100 shots are worthy of scanning and printing. Thanks for your help.

Lightroom, in addition to being a very good and powerful RAW 'developer', is real nice in keeping track of your images. In other words it is a filing system. This is a boon to me, because I can't remember where I have put image files in the past.

All of the development things Lightroom does to the RAW file is non-distructive, and I really like the way Lightroom makes it able to apply batch development on many images at the same time. Its B/W conversions are very flexible and powerful.

As far as hardware, I use it on a 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook. Lightroom requires that you use OS10.4. There is a beta on Adobe's site that will run until the end of this month (I think it is still there) that I suggest you download and play with to see if you like it.

I'm pretty sure that once you get your M8 you'll want to hang onto more than 1% of your shots 🙂 and that is where a digital filing system will come in handy.
