differences early - later M6s

... and the viewfinder is missing the condenser lens so one can get flair but that is not corrected with later models of the M6.

I have got information that viewfinder is better again in MP - after long period of M4-2, M4-P, M6, M6TTL and M7 with simplier construction. (I am not sure if M7 belongs to that group. And what is seriel number of M4-2 where change came out.)

I have DP-12 (F2AS) now too. The leds of it have no levels of brightness. Instead it looks just same as Nikon FM2 display. 3 leds (+ o - ).

Early M6 have two light-arrows which works by levels of brightness.

Congrates on your new F2AS.

I am new to Leica and Rangefinders. I kinda have forgotten about my SLR's. Thanks for pointing out my errors.

Also know that, as a result of one of your earlier posts, I went home to check a Nikon book as a referance. I now understand how remarkably sensitive the DP-12 meter is and why it is such a great camera for hand held available low light photogaraphy. It is funny because that was what I used it for before getting the F3P.

It has been a long time since I last used my F2AS. Now I am very happy I kept it, but I need to use it more.

Thank you! It is unbeatable. "It provides an extended light metering sensitivity of EV-2 to EV17, which enables very-low light metering. In actual practical term means a full 8 sec. exposure at f/1.4 to a l /2000 sec. exposure at f/8 with an f/1.4 lens and ASA 100 film." http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfinder/f2dp12.htm

I have a DIY-plan for smaller and lighter power source to MD2 or MD3 motor. After that I have a camera of my dream. Motor give stability, but F2 motors with their own power sources are very bulky.

As you know, there is a saying: "A heavy camera is a steady camera."

My F3's with the motor drives are mighty heavy, but kinda loud. I always use single shot mode.

Still nice to have a F2AS. Also to me the best looking camera Nikon ever made.

Learning to use the M6 has been an experience that will have to be taken slowly. I love the feel of the camera and its lenses. But, I will have to say the veiwfinder is so good that I forgot to focus completely with the rangefinder and the first 4 pictures came out blurry when I developed the roll because I failed to focus. Then later I forgot to put the camera on 1/50th of a second to take the picture with a flash unit and the curtain was about 1/4 still showing when the photo was viewed. I guess the fact the flash covers half of the dial that I forgot to look to see what I had it on. It is a learning experience. I can't wait to get proper adapters to test the Screwmount lenses I have on the M6 and how they compare with the Summicron 50f2.0 I also purchased.

But I will say I love it. I equate it with owning a Browning Shotgun in that it is
precision made.

Photography became totally new to me. As everyone can see, I forgot all about SLR's, when I got swept into Leica and rangefinders, even though I had decades of experiance.

Leica and rangefinders opened up the envelope. I'm glad I kept my SLR's though. One day I will get back to them.
