I am looking at getting a ZI with a CV35/1.4mc, but want a UWA too. Any difference in the old LTM CV21, compared to the newer CV21-P.. I am aware with the CV21-P, I will need to get the finder separately...Looking for the better IQ, and lens distortion control when used properly to minimize it.

I'm not an expert on the CV lineup, but as far as I'm aware the LTM and M-mount 21s are optically identical. They differ only in mount and (I think?) the LTM has a focus "rod" that pokes out from the focus ring while the M-mount has a tab. From cameraquest's website: "Released April 2007. The new M mount 21/4 P has the same optics as the previous screw mount 21/4, but now sports a new lens barrel. "

They are reportedly the same optical formula, but major thing that's different is that the new 21/4P doesn't include the 21mm external VF. If you're using anything other than the R4M/A you're going to need the VF.

I had a 25mm Snap Shot a few years ago with an R2, and it was a very sharp with great contrast. Now, that I can buy a new RF and a few lenses in a few weeks after I recieve my share of my Dads Estate, my line up looks like this at point, after much thinking on my part. I pretty sure the VM21-P/VM28-2.0/ZM50-1.5 kit will work for me. and a ZI black body. Can't wait. !!...And yes, I will get out and shoot!

Sounds like a good set up.
I -could- spend the money to buy a different 21 (a ZM if I wanted an even more modern look, or the Super-Angulon if I wanted to go retro), but for as often as I use it (around 5% or less), the CV 21 is fine performer and I have no real complaints. Compared to the Zeiss and more recent Leica 21s, it has some corner vignetting, which some people find objectionable. Personally, it doesn't bother me a bit: I often add vignetting to shots in post-processing anyway and the Super-Angulon (which I have dreams about owning) is far "worse" when it comes to light falloff. If you like the focal length, you'll enjoy the lens, I'm sure.
Don 't forget to post the pics so we can enjoy them too!

Thanks for the insight...I will be getting my ZI kit in early February (I hope). My 1st field trip will be in downtown Indianapolis armed with all 3 lenses and a soft shoulder type bag. and some Color Film. Maybe Fuji Reala 100 CNF, I like Fuji colors. I'll post a few as soon as I can. Now that I have a dedicated film scanner, it should be a breeze.Sounds like a good set up.

I've had the 15/4.5 in M and LTM, I now use the LTM and fimd them equal optically and build wise.
with the 21/4, I only have the LTM and am pleased with it, and with finder, it was several hundred less than the M version, and I would presume smaller as well.
There is one thing I have found with my ltm 21/4 and that is in bright sunlight, even if out of frame (barely), weird flare happens. Sometimes it's used to good effect as in this image that I have printed in 8x10 for a family member:

yeah Ted, I've noticed that it flares some too. Coincidentally, I just developed a roll with several shots into the sun that show the same kind of rainbow flare "bubbles" as in your shot (though mine are in b/w). Previously, I'd just seen overall veiling flare and the big diaphragm ghosts. I'm assuming the Zeiss 21s, in particular, would be much better on flare. Not sure about the Leica offerings.

Would be interesting to know how the Zeiss 21s handle flare, though I don't use this length enough to upgrade. Only a couple of my shots were at this angle, so it's not a big deal for me.
The 15/4.5, possibly at specific apertures, gives a nice star effect with the sun in the frame, really nice for late afternoon or sunset landscapes.

Yeah, not much of a sunshade for these UWAs. So flair has a better chance of rearing its ugly head. Even the ZM 21 hood is minimal..maybe 10mm - 15mm or so. I liked the 25mm, but is to close to the 28mm in FOV. I may still get the ZM 21/4.3 though. Have to see how much my wife spends on a new car (Chevy "HHR LT"), I hope no more than $18k on a new 2009

CV does have a rectangular shade (in addition to the tiny circular screw-in one) for the 21mm -- I have it, but it's fairly wide and I don't often carry it with me. And, of course, with such a wide FOV, there's only so much it can do, though I suspect that when the sun is out of the frame it would help significantly.
