Different day, different camera, what's yours today?

Last Sunday morning, we took the granddaughters (ages 2 and 6) fishing at our lake with their parents. The girls caught a bunch of tiny sunfish and my daughter-in-law reeled in a 24" largemouth bass! What fun! And of course, the pictures will be enjoyed long after the bass was to the water.

So, today, I want to do something different. A different day, a different camera!

The camera: Nikkormat FTn Black Body with 50mm 1.8 lens loaded with Tri-X.

The plan: Fishing trip with the grandsons (ages 4 and 6) to the lake.

I really am looking forward to some quality time with the Nikkormat and can think of nothing more fun that to dedicate the whole afternoon shooting with it.:angel:

I normally take my S3 to work with me just to have a camera handy, but today I switched it up and took my XA 🙂

I've been giving my new-to-me IIIf RDST a lot of use recently, both because of the "new toy" factor and because if it had any issues, I wanted to find out soon so I could gripe to the seller.

It's a great camera to take along on day hikes: compact, wide range of shutter speeds, and allows for complete creative control. Shoot a roll of print film, develop it, then show pics of where I was to friends. Much easier to take an envelope of prints along with me than to lug a laptop around.

Now starting to dust off the Pentax MX again. It feels huge and clunky in comparison to the IIIf, but you just can't beat an SLR with a built-in meter for macro work.

I went downtown Milan today to visit a couple of exhibitions and took with me my Bessa R with the Heliar 50mm F2 (anniversary edition) and a delta 100. Took a few shots.

Always in the glove box is a Leica Mini Zoom. Often in the back of the car is a 9x12 and Welti, or a Moskva and a Weltini.

I sure wish I could get a chance to shoot them. sigh.

I have a question for everyone.. What exactly qualifies as a Barnack? When did everyone start calling Leica SM and copies that? Now, I know Oskar Barnack was the head of development for Leitz for the development of the first Leica camera and died in 1936, so can a copy made 20 years after his death really be called a "Barnack"? 😕

I shot my F2 Eye-Level sporting 135mm NIKKOR-Q Auto with Fuji Pro160S today...did a few portraits and some weird angle architecture type stuff I guess...Sunny 16... 🙂

Today's about shot, but I'm thinking about shooting some E6 film and having it cross-processed as C-41, inspired by a thread I saw here this morning. I think the Contax IIIa with w-Nikkor 35mm 2.5.

Ultimately, any answer is opinion since there was no "Barnack" model unless you want to look into commemoratives. I consider a Barnack-style camera to be of the size and form of a pre-M Leica. That includes knock-offs. Being more definitive than that is like trying to pin down the term sedan or roadster to a particular auto manufacturer.

I drive to work so and my bag always goes with me. In it are my K20D + 50-135 lens plus 3-4 others depending on what I feel like taking. I shoot a lot of trains and the K20D + 50-135 is my "go-to" setup for that...very versatile for the kind of shooting I do. The "other" camera that goes with me all the time is my Digilux 2. It sits on the seat beside me, set up and ready to go so all I have to do is snap it on for grab shots...

I have only recently discovered the the Nikkormat FT, I've used it a bit, loved it. This is something I have yet to do with it; an outing with no other camera but the Nikkormat. I love the looks of this camera uncluttered by a flash mount. I love all my different SLR's (and the RF's too of course), my Pentax F, various Minoltas, Nikon F. They all have their different hefts and shutter nuances. I need to take the time to enjoy each of the them --- one at a time.
