I bougth a Kiev-4 this spring and recently i got an old Jupiter-11 from E-bay.
However the lens did not fit the outer bayonet of the camera, it was only possible to turn the lens about 1/4 of the nestcecary angle for it to sit properly on the camera.
Is there any known differences in the specifications for the measures of the outer bayonet of various Kiev cameras.
I fixed the problem using a small "Dremel" hobby machine to grind off material in the inside of the lens bayonet until it could be mounted, but i just wondered.

The specifications for the mount didn't change, but it's not uncommon for newer lenses to have trouble going onto older cameras and vise versa. I have a late 70's J12 that fits right on my late 70's 4a, but that takes a lot of wiggling and "encouragement" to fully mount on my '56 2a. I've heard similar stories from people tryint to mount the Helios 103 on older Kievs. The phenomenon is usually attributed to a serious decline in quality control at the Kiev factory in the 70's and 80's.

thank you for your answer. My Camera, i believe, is from about 1963, but i don't know how old the lens could be.
Anyway the operation was not difficult and could easily be performed.

With Jupiters the first two digits of the serial number are usually the year of production. Just a side thought, always make sure the camera's focus is set to infinity before trying to mount a lens on the external bayonet. Failure to do so can cause problems.

Easy to mount lenses-

Easy to mount lenses-

The absolute fastest and easiest way to mount a Jupiter 9,11 or 12 is to do the following; Set the focus of the lense to infinity, turn the 50mm focusing ring until the line between infinity and 20 bisects the red mounting dot that is just below the flash socket. At this time push the lens with the red dot that is just below infinity on to the red dot of the camera. After doing this, rotate the lens counterclockwise until it clicks and you are ready to go. I have used this method on all of my old and new Kievs and it seems to work on everything.
