Digging through over 30.000 photos

I've amassed a huge number of photos over the last few years and have begun going through them in chunks, looking for photos that have some sort of meaning to me today.

This is excellent! I don't know your age but I started taking photo's when I was 5 years old and seriously when I was seven and got my first camera. I'm almost 67 now and have over 100,000 B&W negs capturing a lost culture in Appalachia. As I write this I'm scanning digital contact sheets and have been for a week preparing to meet with the curator of the Tennessee State museum this Saturday. The museum recently made a purchase of some of my work and now they're talking a large acquisition for their permanent collection and a solo show in three years.

Things change slowly but they're constantly changing. Capturing daily life will is so important and will be even more so when you look back in thirty or forty years. It's a record of the culture that most take for granted. In a few years you'll be happy you did this. Who knows you might get a show out of it one day.

How are you uploading to instagram? Exporting and sending to your phone. I love the community on IG, but it is such a nightmare taking photographs off the computer get onto IG!

Hey X-Ray, thank you for the words of encouragement. Indeed, as I grow older, the slower things seem to happen. I'm now 27 with a young family.

Three years ago I was fortunate enough to have my first show, in Vermont. It was some of my best work to date. I've not since pursued any other exhibits. Though I do have some good frames I feel that I still have much to improve, especially in developing more focused narratives.

Thanks Peter, I basically export at 800px, email it to myself, open up on phone and use an app called instasize to give the rectangle its white upper and lower edges. Convoluted, but that's Instagram with third party photos.
