LX5 is a nice P&S, but not "real camera" feel. A Canon S95 or S100 would be my choice in this class just because of pocketability, but that is not what you say your are looking for.

Any decent compact digital zoom camera with a Flipbac...
Right now, Cameralabs ranks the Panasonic TZ20 / ZS10 as top-rated. It has image stabilization and 16X optical zoom. Leica designed lens. The Flipbac is a low-tech articulated LCD - an adjustable mirror, actually. It is totally pocketable, 24mm out to what, 400-ish? And it shoots hi-def video. $230. I think we should stop thinking in terms of "Barnacks" in the year 2012. Incredible versatility... relatively cheap. "Good enough" IQ for street photography, where subject/composition/timing and the ability to get the shot (keep 16x optical zoom with image stabilization in mind) is everything... trumping technical image detail, which is technically probably better than the great photos shot with Barnacks using decades old film technology.
