Smartphones have killed a lot of the compact camera market but really I would argue that market was already greatly declining in terms of profit.
Back in the days when a basic compact cost £300 or more there was serious money to be made, when there being sold for £50-70 the profit margin becomes vastly smaller.
Again that's the weakness in just tracking all camera sales, I'm guessing Canon or Nikon make 100 times or more profit per FF DSLR they sell compared to every basic compact they sell not to metion the extra profits on lens sales those cameras give.
