Digital Color to B&W

I've found the reverse to be true regarding the usefulness of color-B/W conversions: I often desaturate my color camera RAW files, then do curves, levels, contrast, brightness, contrast centering, gamma, etc. adjustments to the B/W RAW image; then resaturate the image back to color and do the final white balance/color and sharpening adjustments. It makes for really outstanding color images if the underlying B/W tonality is set correctly.

The only best digital color that i converted to B&W and it looked closer to my film is with my digital Hasselbld, the quality and DR surpassed any of my normal DSLRs[35mm], and if i shoot at about higher ISO it will give me fine grain almost what i see with film, my H3DII was so grainy at higher ISOs but my new H4D is much better at higher ISO.
