Digital Dark Ages have Arrived

Hah! In the interest of full disclosure, I shot a wedding this weekend, on film, and lost the best part of it by messing up the aperture on my oh-so-reliable mechanical camera. I feel like dog drool.

It ain't archival if you don't get an image!

For the sake of casual P&S users I'm hoping that those nifty wireless SD cards will catch on. Instant backup to an online site would encourage even the least savvy user to do the safe thing.

But simply leaving the photos on the camera may not be as bad as it sounds, if you can manage not to lose the camera or hit the delete button. CF and SD cards are more durable than most other kinds of storage, and really cheap. Probably not as stable as properly stored film, but such is life.
