is on the way out!

i am getting more & more complaints about just digital galleries and i'll be looking into it.

originally we allowed some digital shots in people's galleries cause we are nice and we realize that many shoot various formats etc.

but it's getting out of hand as people are setting up galleries, not participating in the forums and posting all digital.

i'll be deleting entire galleries if all they contain is digital. (not icluding rd-1)

please accept this as notice.
it will be happening soon.

who are these people that actually complains? It's like the digital pics are harming them in some way

This is a forum dedicated to rangefinder cameras, almost all film based. Storage space is finite and filling it up with digital files hardly seems fair when there are so many other venues out there for that.

Then there is the legitimate question of participation in the forum as well. Otherwise the relationship is all one way, taking "free" space and not giving back in terms of knowledge.

yes and the digital rf's are fine.

I have my own website for all of my stuff and the gallery here is for the pictures I want to show to RFF members and where I want RFFers comments. Once in a while I link a non RF picture to a thread or upload one in a thread where I think it is apropriate, but not in the gallery.

And Mango, i might give in. The Contax G is not a rangefinder to the description we had in another thread, in the Contax G forum nobody talks about straps, bags and cases. So it might just be the most rangefinder like camera :)

I've nothing in particular to add to this thread, except to show my agreement by way of a BUMP!

It was my understanding that Premium members could post digital in their galleries. Are you saying that other members are now complaining about it?

just to be clear.

i'm not talking about a digital/film mix.

i think we have some people who are posting ONLY digital.

the sponsorship allow a gallery for slr shots...i'm not sure about digital.
none the less, it's not about the mix, it's aimed at those posting only digital.

Why would any member here care how much space another member is using with digital shots? Seems like one of the "hater" types that goes out of their way to police the site themselves.

i can assure you that i have not received any 'hate' mail from anyone.

but in fact we are called rangefinder forum for a reason and i would like it if the main focus was kept to rf cameras.
obviously the rd-1 is an exception.

there is no fight here.

What about digital images taken with my Olympus 5050? It looks like a rangefinder, it's auto-focus like the Contax G however it's not Leica M mount.

I just want to know if they will be deleted if I upload them.

I shudder at opening this can of worms again, but a camera such as the Olympus 5050 (or the 4040 I own, or the 2020 I used to own) doesn't really autofocus like a Contax G.

The Olympus uses contrast detection, which is roughly analogous to how the human eye focuses an SLR -- it looks for the "sharpest" image.

The Contax G actually does focus the same way as a traditional rangefinder camera: It examines the target from two different locations and calculates the distance based on the angle between them when they match up. The only difference is that in a traditional RF, the matching is done by your eye looking at a rangefinder spot; on the Contax, it's done by two CCD detectors. It's simply an "automated rangefinder."

I'm as picky about the RF/non-RF distinction as the next person (maybe even MORE picky than most) but I think that based on this similarity in their underlying theory of operation, the Contax G cameras really do legitimately fall into the rangefinder camp.

Well we are paying for the gallery now. I have about 5% of my gallery in Digital, on a Nikon D1-H because its my work camera. When I do personal stuff its always on my rangefinders and its film.

I just dont want my stuff deleted.

It wasnt set in any rules that I cant post digital SLR images when i paid for the membership.

Please take that into consideration.

And to those of you who complain about DSLR photos in the gallery, I think your being a bit anal retentive.

A good photograph is worth seing no matter what the medium.

I should have read the whole thread before getting worked up. It seems as though my gallery is safe from this scourge as it is film RF and DSLR mixed.
