Why is it on RFF, that whenever there is a thread discussing analogue photography in a positive light, some digital users insist on trashing the thread?

You all know who I mean, the usual suspects, ywenz, RJ Bender, Socke...

So guys, I am asking you directly, you have just managed to get a perfectly civil thread shut down by the moderators, why are you so insecure that you feel you have to behave this way? No film users in that thread were being rude or sarcastic or aggressive, there was no need for you to act the way you did.

Andy: Your "pixel-peeping, bill gateish nerd" type of comments are anything but civil. Take the colour out of your comments and we can have a discussion, rather than an argument.

I have an opinion on all of this, but I'll very likely never express it here.
It always gets ugly. Shame really. I was beginning to think this was one forum where people were able to express a civil opinion and count on a civil response.

"Thou shall not gore thy neighbor's sacred cow."

Thy neighbor can't take it.

Why are you so worried about digital and digital users?
Why do you troll the board, looking specifically to pick a fight about film and digital?

I see but one thread on the topic in the front page of this forum - a "film rules, digital SUXXXX" thread that you started.

Stones, glass houses, etc..

If you took the time to read the thread you would see it was nothing of the sort, until others came in starting a D vs A argument. The rest of us were discussing proprietory file types and analogue materials and their availability.

By the way, I use both. I am a digital AND analoge type.

I can mix developer and hack dcraw 🙂

I don't think it was - it may have gotten worse, due to the involvement of some, but it started out provocative, trumpeting the apparent superiority of film.

His third post (second real one) was about the horrors of digi-anything, and "IT nerds like Bill Gates" and such that I'd swear I've seen him post before.

It's trolling, plain and simple. If people want to feed it, I don't care (I don't have to read it), but he shouldn't pile on self-righteousness to go with his trolling.

Ah. Film users are a calm and considered bunch, not interested in a quick fix or instant gratification 😉

Actually... not entirely true. I'm a film (only) kinda person and I'm about 98% Type A personality. Did you see the "fast Zen" discussion from last week. It's the 'calm and considered' approach... but with a lot less wasted time. There's only so many minutes in the day... so there's no time to be relaxed about using them!

Personally, I like a quick fix but have to settle for a few delays. Like my lab now telling me that 120 processing/proofing will take 7 to 10 working days. I'm calm... on the surface... but working on a heart attack or aneurism beneath my seemingly calm exterior. Maybe I should consider digital, Polaroid is just too expensive anymore... whadd'ya think?

And... what are you winking at? It makes me nervous when guys wink at me!

Where did I 'trumpet the superiority of film'? I said I would stick to film, that is expressing a preference, it is not claiming superiority for anything.

Why don't you stop fueling the fire you are complaining about. You can do that by not having started this thread or respond to it. I predict this will turn into another closed thread very soon. that's a 2-2 record for AndyK in two days. Maybe you should look in the mirror. I seriously hope you do.

I call bullshit, given your ensuing posts. "I was just stating a preference, before I started ranting about IT NERDS."

Like I said, not my problem - but you could spare us the righteous indignation about some digital users rising to your bait.

Andy,

Ask Joe. I didn't think the thread needed to be closed.
If you have strong feelings about analogue photography, wouldn't it be great if you could say that you're 100% analogue? I wanted to see how this could be achieved. I wasn't making fun of anyone.

The word "sunlight" in my last post was linked to this website:

I'm sorry you took it the wrong way.

Why are YOU so upset about it? Why do YOU feel the need to now be unnecessarily rude and aggressive? Why are YOU now trolling THIS thread, which was not even addressed to you?
I made ONE comment which could be construed as slightly anti-digital, it was in fact meant to be anti-microsoft and anti Gates's agenda for control over everything digital, but you may not have got that.
In return I was insulted several times by ywenz, for no reason as far as i can see other than I expressed a preference.

I'm more of a geek than a nerd, but I'm not offended by beeing called a nerd and beeing compared to the richest man on earth doesn't offend me, too.

It's the nerds who program software like that used here, it's the nerds who make the online orders possible which we need to get our supplies, and and and

nerd: n.

1. [mainstream slang] Pejorative applied to anyone with an above-average IQ and few gifts at small talk and ordinary social rituals.

2. [jargon] Term of praise applied (in conscious ironic reference to sense 1) to someone who knows what's really important and interesting and doesn't care to be distracted by trivial chatter and silly status games. Compare geek.

If that was indeed your sentiment, then it's unforunate for you given the choice words and tone you used. I would say that was the spark that started the fire. I did not have a problem with your original post. You ought to learn to be less polemical in your arguments in the future.
