Digital Negative for Platinum Printing

Okay,
I am so fired up now after going through the possibilities of doing platinum printing!

Is it possible to print a digital image to transparency film and obtain a good 8x10 negative for contact printing?

Since I am new to this and have no darkroom skills yet, I would appreciate your comments.

I had a hard time getting dense enough negs for platinums with the digital process Burkholder outlines.

But I'm sure with time and practice, there will be a solution.

I have an Epson 2000P that can do digital negatives for contact printing like platinum or palladium. I've not used any of the materials to print digital negatives so I don't know how well it works. That might be good in that you could use slides, positive and prints and then make negatives that are in a good range for printing.

rob has worked with a lot of .alt photo processes, and has been experimenting with taking film images to the scanner then making inkjet positives for plt/pldm prints, and various permutations.

The printer I have (B9180) seems to be one of the more popular ones for doing that.

I have just started to move in this direction. It seems that the color profile that Burkholder espouses can be improved upon - several people have published Photoshop curves and color profiles that are supposed to give superior results. You might want to check out this link.

I am interested in doing ziatypes, as this process gives you a direct print that blocks as it develops - the dark areas block up and stop darkening during developement, and you just continue exposing until the light areas are properly exposed. Cool.

Matt - yes. The preferred material is Pictorico OHP. It is available online directly from Pictorico, also from Freestyle, Bostick-Sullivan and probably anyone else who sells Pd/Pt chemicals and kits.

I have done a few enlarged contact prints with the Pictorio White film, it's like the OHP but white. Most people doing the process use the white film. I tried the acetate stuff and it has a texture to it that shows up in the prints.
